Anyone remember the Scientific Facts surrounding Y2K

"We're no longer at the point of asking whether or not there will be any power disruptions, but we are now forced to ask how severe the disruptions are going to be..." - U.S. Senator Chris Dodd, June 12, 1998.

"In a worst case scenario for a city or town, authorities could face the failure of the power plant, the water treatment plans and transit systems" - John Koskinen, White House Year 2000 chief.

"Let's stop pretending that Y2K isn't a major threat to our way of life. There is too much at stake for such uninformed wishful thinking."- Dr. Ed Yardeni, Managing Director & Chief Economist, Deutche Bank; Keynote address to Bank for International Settlements

Y2K, what a hoax that was! We were beat up by regulators with "Y2K exams" and assailed by fly-by-night vendors who popped up like mushrooms with all sorts of "Y2K readiness" to sell us.

All was for naught.

Well ... except for the multiple .30 ammo cans full of cartons of .22 Long Rifle ammo I collected for several years before 2000. Came in handy when there really was a dearth of .22 ammo as there has been in the past year.

We were all provided with Pagers for y2k based upon the fact that if all the communications computers int the world were down somehow pagers will work. We were instructed to call back after we got the page. laugh

I was in commercial lending in the 90s. As early as 1998, we were running commercial loan customers out of the bank because their Y2K plans didn't meet our standards. I got out of that insane asylum in July 98.

i'm fairly certain anyone who can read or look at pictures of the devestation caused in WW2 with an atomic bomb can understand the effect...

or that has seen pictures of Chernobyl...or any other nuclear plant mishap.

now, they may be able to better explain why radiation causes what it does, but i'm pretty sure any layman can understanding the effects as well as scientists.

i think the key word here is "may". of course, they also "may not".

yes, Hawking is a brilliant person, but even brilliant people aren't right 100% of the time.

Sadly, only time will tell how much impact man did or did not have related to climate change...

Brilliant Hawking may be but I'm no fan of his. He doesn't care whether I am or not. He's also overrated.

That was just a little experiment.

Someone posted a quote from Stefan Molyneaux about global warming being a scare tactic. Queue complete silence about it in this thread. He must be an indisputable expert!

I posted a quote by Stephen Hawking: let's rip him apart! Let's pick apart all his quotes! He must be a fool!

LMAO

You all are so predictable. smirk

Funny how we care on global warming and cannot even agree what the effects would be, yet when we find out China can shut down our electrical grid, what are we doing about it?

He is not an expert. Did you watch the video? The video had nothing to do with his knowledge about the subject, it had to do with his knowledge about the debate and the modeling. He does not argue global warming is not happening. He argues that since the models have shown to be wrong, and all of the assumptions were based on this, then they are wrong and the conclusions based on them are wrong.
