I do not think that that would be a good name for a dog.

I guess this would also rule out "Woody". We had two dogs growing up - Woody & Buckeye.

We just got a new fur baby from the Humane Society on Sunday. They said her name was Raven, but there is NOTHING Raven about her and she didn't respond to that name. We renamed her Pinot (Yes, we like wine!) and she already responds to that!

Cant you just use your Amulet of Avalor and ask the dog what his name is?

will a name ending in a 'no' sound just confuse the dog?

the dog may think, can I pee here or not? I wish the humans would make up their mind

out of the frying pan...
My rule for naming pets is simple: it must be something I can yell with conviction when they're in trouble. "Mr. Wickle Fuzzypants" just doesn't work well when you are trying to discourage abberant behavior.

I'm also in the 'pets name themselves' camp. Our cat Gracie earned her name when she fell off the couch on day #3 of living with us. Loki is nothing but chaos. And the adorable face to the left is Lucy-fur. So named because within an hour of brigning her home she pounced on Loki's head while snarling like a demon. For the record, at the time she weighed about 8 lbs. Loki weighs in around 85. smirk

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
Shadow would be a good name for a chocolate lab . Most labs love water- so Moses or Noah would be good as well.

We have named our dogs after places where we have lived - if that doesn't ring true for you, maybe places you have traveled?

We currently have a black lab named Sitka (my husband was stationed in the Coast Guard in Sitka, Alaska). Our previous dog was Eagan (I lived in Eagan, MN). I actually wanted Dakota, because that is in Dakota County - but he nixed it because "everyone knows a dog named Dakota".

I was born in Dubuque, IA.... don't think that name will ever work either.

basilring, that's a great idea! I had that thought recently and proposed "Raleigh" as a name since we lived there for a couple of years and had our second daughter there.

Aside from that, I don't think Warszawa, Stockholm, Karlskrona, and East Berlin are going to work. wink

Although we could name him Indy... We live in Indy. lol

Indy and Raleigh are both great names!

Where I lived the longest in MN was Apple Valley (the next suburb down from Eagan)... but obviously that doesn't work - so we went with Eagan.

I suppose you could shorten one of the others - like Zawa... or Krona (although I would fear people would think Coronna!.

Using a foreign word is cool for a dog too.

My Babcia found a little dog left in a shopping cart in Chicago. The dog's personality made Babcia name her Lis (lees) which as Aggs knows is 'fox' in Polish. She called her Lisu (did I spell that right, Aggs?) in the 2-syllable tradition of naming a dog.

My grangirl who is half Peruvian named her dog Dulce, which is Spanish for 'sweet'.

Of course both of these names came after we actually had time to see the dog's personality.

Do look into training classes for your new puppy. Those hunting breeds can be headstrong even after they're neutered.

I agree with that, I got a yellow lab as a puppy two years ago. I have spent a lot of time and money training him (equal time between field trainging and obedience). He is a great pet and hunting partner!
