With the Blue Platoon and White Platoon system, UK is going to be a very hard nut to crack this year.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
well, i for one think there should be at least 70 teams in the NCAA tourney, or they should combine the NCAA and the NIT so we can really konw who is the national champion...

This year they're going back to calling it play-in games and not the first round. this really bugged me the last few years and when i read about the change it made my day better because i live in a great time and place and am extrememly fortunate to have my real needs met.

Haven't heard anything about that - but I hope you're right. It's the play-in round. But really doesn't matter what color you paint it, these games are still part of the tournament. You win or you go home.....

HAHA! It's actually 68. A field of 60 + 8 teams vying for the last 4 spots.

(so, still under Happy's magic number of 70)

(and, yes, I'm just messing with you)

Lost in a regulatory fog
Kentucky looks very strong right now, but let's see if CalShady can keep all those egos in check for the whole season. My Heels are playing right now (12pm on a Wednesday? crazy), so I'll have to wait and watch when I get home.

Ouch.....my pride. blush

You're right.....its 68, which is what I had typed first, then I edited it because I had 64 in mind for the actual tourney field....then convinced myself that 68 wasn't right. Happy will NEVER let me live that down.

If they can improve (they still had 18 turnovers last night) and continue to play with the same effort and enthusiasm I'll have a lot of fun watching UK basketball this year. And keeping egos in check seems to be one of Cal's strong points.....but of course he's never had to try to balance an entire team of egos, so we'll have to see if he can hold it together.

laugh laugh laugh

My husband is a huge Michigan basketball fan and a season-ticket holder. Since we live in Indianapolis, he can't make it up for every home game, so he now shares the tickets with an old friend and they split the costs based on how many games each goes to.

When Michigan plays well, my life is better. grin

I kinda like Calipari. He doens't act like the amateur part of it is some kind of magic godsend that everyone should love. He straight up admits what his team is -- NBA prep 101.

i wish some college would set a freshmen curriculum with finance and nutrition and basically life skills for a pro athlete for the one and done guys. heck, maybe some of them do.

I actually think Wisconsin might be the worse matchup for kentucky. Experienced, smart older team (since no one will out-athlete UK) Their big guys can all stretch the floor and get Cauley-Stein and Towns out of the lane. And they can slow it down so that the fresh legs platoon thing isn't as big an advantage.

To my knowledge, Wisconsin and KY don't play this year. But even speaking hypothetically - I wouldn't expect too much from that match-up. Compared to the KY teams of the past few years, UK is loaded with experience and as you pointed out, it will be very hard to compete along the lines of raw athleticism. In a few days KY plays Texas; then about a week after they play NC...those may prove to be some challenging games.

not so much there are seasonal fans...but the season is sooooooo long, and 130+ teams make one of 2 tournaments...so why waste a good winter watching tons of timeouts in the last 38 seconds that takes 27 minutes to play...just tune in when they've gotten down to 8 teams...that way you only waste 3-4 days on this sport...

Not so much. I tend to watch every UT game, even when we suck and it hurts to watch. Like pre-Pearl, and from the looks of it, again this year. cry

But my post was more indicative of the general, overall lack of interest in a sport where all of the emphasis is placed on the post-season, thereby diminishing the importance of the regular season. wink (As a UT guy conversing with a UK guy, you had to know I'd try to flip the discussion from basketball to football, right? laugh )

you do what you do, but if you're a sports fan, the tournament (especially the first two days)--and really it starts in the conference tournaments-are among the most exciting days of the year in sports.

Goober! -- stop it wink grin And yea...I kinda figured you'd find a way to tie it together.

But since you've opened that proverbial can'o'worms, you do realize that strength of schedule, and all kinds of other stuff dictate whether or not you receive an invite to the NCAA tourney? If you don't perform well in the regular season, you don't get in.....unless you manage to magically win your conference with a 3-37 record.
