FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
Never cooked brussel sprouts but do like them when I've eaten them elsewhere. Have some fresh I bought from the market - anyone have a good, simple recipe?

My nephew introduced me to baking them. He sliced in half and drizzled with EVOO first. Added bacon bits to them when they came out of the oven. Even my husband, who refers to them as 'little green golf balls' ate them without complaining! laugh

I've had them this way before:

Ingredients
4 strips thick-cut bacon
2 tablespoons butter
1 pound Brussels sprouts, halved
1/2 large onion, chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until crispy. Remove to a paper towel-lined plate, then roughly chop. In same pan with bacon fat, melt butter over high heat. Add onions and Brussels Sprouts and cook, stirring occasionally, until sprouts are golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and toss bacon back into pan. Serve immediately.

Honestly, when not overcooked brussel sprouts can be fantastic. I've also had them cut match stick style on a pizza. Heavenly!

Our family loves brussel sprouts. My in-laws drizzle a little olive oil over the top and roast them in a pan on 400. I've made them by cooking bacon in a saute pan, take the bacon out, melt a little butter, saute the brussel sprouts with onion then right before they're done, add a little sugar or honey (it brings out the sweetness), and add the bacon back in the pan. So yummy...and yes, I know it defeats the purpose of eating vegetables when you add sugar, butter, and bacon!

Steam them for a bit before roasting them or pan sauteing (dry them well first) and you'll drastically reduce the cooking time without sacrificing the flavor or browning.

Lost in a regulatory fog
Olive oil, salt, and pepper. Microwave in a steamer bag for about 5 minutes then throw them on the grill to finish them off.

Love Brussels sprouts. They even cook up well in the micro wave. Just add a little butter and salt and pepper to taste.

3 bacon strips
1 ╝ lb. fresh or frozen Brussels sprouts, thawed and quartered
1 large onion, chopped
2 TB water
╝ t salt
1/8 t pepper
2 TB balsamic vinegar

6 servings
In large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove to paper towels; drain reserving 1 TB drippings. Crumble bacon and set aside.
In the same saucepan, sautÚ Brussel sprouts and onion in reserve dressing until crisp-tender. Add water, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 4-5 minutes or until Brussel sprouts are tender. Stir in bacon and vinegar.

I make as directed but always add more BACON.

I don't eat them (should really try them again sometime though) but have heard that the Steam Fresh bags are pretty good. Cook according to package directions, then toss in a bowl with butter/EVOO, salt, and pepper.

This must be a southern thing. Sprouts, gourds, squash and the like are not fit for human consumption!

Love brussel sprouts! I usually halve them and then toss with olive oil, salt and pepper and then roast in a hot oven.

I've also tossed with the olive oil and seasoning, added some garlic and wrapped in foil and grilled them that way. I've done the foil wrap in the oven as well.

When I make them simple - it's just olive oil, little salt, some pepper, toss and roast at 425 for about 30-40 mins. Similar to others above.

I don't care for them, but my husband loves them.

Oh, that sounds amazing!

On a side note, have you ever seen them on a stem, the way they grow? Very interesting.

I was watching a local wild game cooking show, and the guy was doing doves with brussel sprouts.

He did the sprouts the way Bacon Boy showed above. I have to say it looked good.

I have never ate brussel sprouts, but I think if I was going to try them that would be the way I would want them.
