Trying to find out from everyone, if a resident alien/non-U.S. citizen comes into your bank and wishes to open an account, do you require to inspect their green card before the account is opened? We are updating our CDD and want to make this a requirement.

Thank you for your response.

If you are accepting a green card as a form of identification, it should be addressed in the CIP, not CDD, section of your BSA policy. It would be essential to inspect it if you are using it as a form of documentary verification for any of the CIP requirements name, address, etc.

Ken,

Yes, we will be updating our CIP to state for non-U.S. citizens who are resident aliens a green card would be required to open an account. I am asking if other banks have a similar requirement.

If a green card is the same as a Permanent Resident Card we do take those and it is in our CIP. We also accept a passport and don't necessarily require the Green Card.

We require a US issued drivers license or State ID card as their primary identification. We then require a secondary source such as a green card.

Your question seems to be about inspecting the document. I second what Ken said. Seeing the document (not just notating what the customer says the document contains) is essential in my opinion. It gives you an opportunity to look at security features, pictures, information on the doc, etc.
