Why is the gift-giving so one sided on Valentines Day? Girls get jewelry, flowers, chocolate etc. Guys might get a card.

I'm also glad it's on a weekend, so I don't have to watch the competition between the women in the office on whose hubby/boyfriend sent the best flowers. And I won't have to listen to the one woman who complains if the huge bouquet of roses her hubby sends contains baby's breath flowers.

Because your gift is on a credit card and you get the bill anyway.

When my wife worked for her dad's insurance agency, the office manager would get so upset after I would send flowers to my wife. I felt sorry for her husband when she got home. In all honesty, we both probably spent the same amount for flowers but just different florists.

One year, one of the women in my department sent flowers to herself, pretending that they came from a guy who she had been almost stalking. All the rest of the people in the department realized what she had done.

It was truly pathetic.

The first Valentines Day we were together I told my husband (boyfriend then) that I was the only one in my department that didn't get flowers. I let that sink in for just 2 minutes or so then told him I made that up. Now it is a running joke every year.

Me: I was the only one that didn't get flowers today
Him: I'm okay with that

My husband has only sent me flowers once for Valentines. The flowers were supposed to come with a box of chocolates that I found out later the teller line kept.

I don't really care for chocolate so I wasn't too upset. I think he was since paid for the chocolate.

Normally I get the wife a date on the town of her choice, card and something warm and fuzzy like teddy-bear or something. Then I will get a hug and once in a while a card.

This year now that we are separated she got me a Kurig. Very nice, but kinda stuck me as odd/interesting.

Valentine's Day is so stupid. I absolved my hubby from getting me anything years ago. And unlike a lot of wives, I meant it. I've never once asked for something or given him grief when he didn't send flowers etc.

Apparently she won a free Keurig somewhere.

It dawned on me the other day that this is our 40th Valentines Day. Where did the time go? She didn't even like me all that much back then. We had just started dating. My roommate and I walked to a florist and ordered flowers our girls. They must have been lucky flowers because we're both still married to those girls. I remember it was sunny and around 70, really unusual for Charleston IL in February.

I told my husband not to get me anything for Valentine's Day. Usually he'll bring me flowers but he got me some two weeks ago.

I'm not a fan of going out to dinner on Valentine's Day. It's always so crowded. We are going to have a date night at home with a fire in the fireplace, cheese, crackers, smoked salmon, and champagne. I prefer that to going anywhere. No kids at home this weekend, so we'll have a chance to relax and talk, which is a rare treat with our busy schedules! I'm so looking forward to it!

My hubby and I don't do Valentines Day, either. If we just happen to end up somewhere that has cards on that day (like the grocery store) we will, however, stand in the card aisle and read aloud the worst cards that we can find. It's really kind of fun and usually has anyone else nearby laughing along.

Every year, we go to a particular restaurant that has a special Valentine's day dinner of steak and shrimp. I usually get my wife something that she likes, a Star Wars thing usually, or art supplies.

She always gets me flowers and a box of chocolates that I make last several months. This year I'm having gallbladder surgery, so no chocolate, or steak, or shrimp for me. D:

Somewhere in the middle
My SIL's Inlaws are quite wealthy and can afford anything, but what they do for Birthdays, ( and holidays that they have cards for like Valentines) They go to the card store and pick out the card they would get the other. Then give it to them and say, if I were to buy you a card, this is the one I would give you.

They can't see wasting money on cards and flowers, etc.
