The head of the audit department reviews and approves the workpapers of the department's auditors. It's a rather small department, so the deparment head also performs some audits. Should someone be reviewing those workpapers as well? Someone within the bank, or possibly a CPA firm?

I have the same set up and nobody reviews my workpapers. Hopefully the Audit Committee has confidence in the testwork I perform. Besides, what value would the external firm bring?

Running and riding everywhere ...
When I was a one man audit shop, no one internally reviewed my workpapers. Our external auditors and the examiners did.

The psych ward
Audits completed and findings are reviewed by our external audit firm and examiners. I had the audit committee once ask to see a recurring mortgage QA audit. They never asked to see work papers again.
