Much more fun though, V8 engines are.

We have a whole generation of Americans who buy into the notion of "less is more" is somehow more "patriotic" and conspicuous consumption must always be viewed negatively.

I may get a lot of grief for this comment, but why does the Prius have to be so darn ugly?! I truly would not buy one because of that.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Orrsislander.

noelekal - I didn't buy my Prius because I felt patriotic - I bought it for financial reasons and my son needed a car so I gave him the one I was driving. I spend about 1/3 on gasoline (or less) than most of my coworkers. That I really enjoy.

Sorry Skittles. I'm not denigrating your automotive choice which was made for very practical reasons, the results of which you enjoy.

It's just that we're assailed constantly with the propaganda that "less is more," expect less, accept less, make do with less, embrace "less." It would seem that "less" is on the horizon for all of us and we're being prepared for a future of "less." Less liberty and less control over our own lives.

Or perhaps I'm just a grouch.

Don't like the Prius, try the Lexus hybrids. My CT200h is giving me great gas mileage and all the bells and whistles...and I can hear them, Pale! wink

Why would you get grief for the truth.

Unfortunately for the Prius (and its owners) it has to be ugly so other drivers see it, know immediately that it is a hybrid, and admire the driver for saving the planet (this is not directed at anyone in here, just most self-righteous California Prius owners). wink

since we are discussing "self-righteous California Prius owners" does the mileage go down in California due to cell phone use (and constant need to recharge)?

No, but the add-on 250 Watt drivers side make-up mirror really drains the battery.

Hey, how many full on electric cars are sold annually? 1,000; 5,000...I don't know?

Tesla has sold 8800 this year.

Here's a list of plug in car sales.

Both my brother-in-law and mother-in-law purchased Prius cars a couple years ago and when I asked about how they like it she noted it made her feel very good about her decision. Not sure that tells me any thing about the car but....

My Fusion hybrid actually can accelerate. I always heard that the Prius can't accelerate very well. I wanted a hybrid that still felt like a regular car.

As I was typing, I tried to use the plural for Prius... Priuses? Priusi? Or is it like deer where the singular and plural are the same?

Prii (pronounced pree-eye)? wink

Although since it is a name, I think "Priuses" is correct, like "Keeping up with the Joneses."

Hey, great! Give us an evaluation review on it. If I can't always drive a new car I can at least hear about others' good fortune.

pieces of junk, the plural is on the word piece

(actually, I have no experience with these cars, I just prefer a larger vehicle)

Pulling people out of the ditc...
i drive too many miles each day, electric would ever work for me. I have yet to see a hybrid I think is nice looking, so I'll just stick with my gas powered car, although I am contemplating a switch back to a VW TDI with the lower diesel fuel costs, my old Jetta was getting 52 MPG, and the new Passat gets around 46, with a 21 gallon tank I could go almost 2 weeks between filling up.

A loan officer in the office next to me has a diesel Passat and it's a really nice car, quite "nippy" with it's diesel, with excellent ride and handling all out of proportion to its size.

I'm impressed.

yes, the "T" in TDI stands for turbo, and when it kicks in, it certainly covers the normal slow diesel acceleration

Way, way south.
My sister just bought a new Passat TDI and it's really, really nice and the MPG is great.

I heard they almost called the Prius the Pius due to the attitude of some drivers. whistle

And, I get wanting to save money with an EV vs. an ICE, but those who think they're doing the environment a favor are deluding themselves.
Where do they think that the electricity comes from?

The increased cost of diesel around here makes it that I would only come out ahead with the Jetta station wagon as that one gets upwards of 47 MPG on the highways. The high MPG on the other VW's was still nice but the end cost would be higher.
