Our neighbor ran to my husband this morning announcing that our cat was floating in his inground pool. I need to rant. Our cat liked to explore the area but, at 17, he did so less and less. Even if he did go in my neighbor's yard, he would not have ventured into a pool. I am at a loss to understand how this happened but I can't accuse my neighbor (or his ratty grandchild) but I will never be able to understand how my cat got in the pool. I will never find another kitty like him. Very affectionate, purred on a dime, fav with the veterinary office staff, spoke volumes to me, lover of all things dairy, great mouse population controller and occasionally jumped up to catch - snowflakes in the winter. I am so sick over this.

sorry, Trees. It hurts to lose a beloved pet.

An in-ground pool coupled with an elderly cat's diminished abilities and reactions, especially in the dark, could mean it truly was an accident. Even with a 6' fence, we get all kinds of critters in our yard around the pool.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I'm so sorry for your loss. We had a cat "commit suicide" in our pool - we assume he was chasing a bird that liked to drink from the pool water and didn't realize the danger to himself.....

My condolences Trees, my orange marmalade is still one of my most treasured memories and she passed away almost 8 years ago. frown

Thank you, everyone. He lived well and played hard and, as all of you know that own or have owned furry family members, they are all unique and can't be replaced and that is so true of my orange kitty. Treasured memories is a good way to describe my feelings as well.
