When we enter our borrower's address into the FFIEC's Geocode software, it gives us a census tract that we know is incorrect based on the side of the street the property is on.

Do we report the tract we know to be correct based on the location of the property and properly document the file?

Or do we report the tract information that the FFIEC provides?

You will need to demonstrate the proper geocode via maps, etc. and show how your arrived at the correct geocode (use the correct code). There is no exact science to automated geocoding. It is a "best effort" type of thing and to get the exact answer takes additional effort. When things are near boundaries, it gets tricky. Sometimes addresses are thrown into the next county.

When I geocode for HMDA I occasionally get one like you have mentioned. If I know it to be incorrect, I back up my reason (legal description, plat map), anything that I can find to prove it.
