It's a true story and maybe that's why I don't like it but I think mostly it is written poorly. It makes me wonder who some people can get books publised and others can't.
Have not read the book but did hear a podcast by the author. Not surprised the writing is poor. Her interview wasn't great either. Fascinating story though.

I'm with you Patsgirls. There is just something about holding a book and the smell of a new book.

And there's something even better about taking 300 of your favorite books with you on vacation and being able to lift them with 2 fingers. E-books FTW!

I am officially on EBook #2
The consolation to me is that I can buy the real book and never crack the binding so they will all look perfect on the shelf yet I have read them : )

Does anyone plan on reading the new Harper Lee book? I re-read To Kill A Mockingbird about a month ago just in case I decide to purchase this one.

I always have several books going at once but two I just started are "Far From the Maddening Crowd" by Thomas Hardy and begin rereading "When Money Dies" by Adam Fergusson.

The second one was sobering when I only read it to learn about the run-up to the rise of Nazism in Germany. It's more sobering now, even though 1920s Weimer Germany cannot be considered a direct comparison to the economy of the United States.

With a few substitutions though ...

Picked up the new Harper Lee book at Sam's yesterday. My eldest gran saw it come out of the shopping bag and begged me to let her read it first so she can get in on the conversations on Twitter and the internet. She cannot believe that readers are surprised by Atticus in the new book. Her arguments were persuasive enough that I feel like I should reread Mockingbird first too.

I started Harper Lee's book last night, about 18% through (Kindle reader)and hope to finish it in the next day or two. The adult Scout is as interesting of a character as she was in Mockingbird.

Having purposely ignored all internet chatter, so far I'm enjoying it. When I'm done with it I'll see what the chatter is saying.

I'm about a third of the way into David Baldacci's 'Memory Man' and I am really enjoying it.

If anyone has finished Go Set a Watchman yet I'd be interested in your opinion. All I will say is I did not enjoy it.

fortunate enough to never having read the first or the sequel...son had to read to kill a mockingbird this year and said it was horrible...

I've tried to read a great number of "American classics" and have struggled with all of them...

of mice and men - never finished
the ox-bow incident - never finished
a farewell to arms - never finished
the great gatsby - never finished
catcher in the rye - finished but just wanted to punch the main character right in the nose
the adventures of huck finn - never finished
farenheit 451 - finished but not impressed
animal farm - never finished

i'm sure there are more, just can't recall at the moment...

Drat...I already own it but haven't cracked it open yet. Have to read them in the order I picked them up, you know! As I've said, I loved the original, so I've been looking forward to this different perspective. Will keep you posted as I read. Maybe I need to bump it up the list so we can open a GSAW bar!

Currently reading "Mr Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore" - really well written, very pretty turns of phrase.

I didn't realize "A most wanted man" was supposed to be a comedy...reading the book now and it's a comedy of errors - very tongue in cheek... very disappointing for someone expecting a good spy novel from John Le Carre.
