Good afternoon,

Our item processing team asked about physical document retention. Currently, all customer transactions are scanned (branch capture processing) at the banking centers and the images are kept for 7 years.

All the banking centers send the physical transactions processed through branch capture to our processing department and the original physical documents are retained for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks the these items are shredded. I’m looking to see if we could move the physical document retention from 6 weeks to 4 weeks.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Unless something in State law would prevent it, there is nothing at the Federal level. The only reason to retain the physical items would be for quality control purposes.
