In a recent exam, the FDIC brought up an almost 20 year-old FIL endorsing a 2 consecutive week vacation policy. (And, yes, I know - it's a recommendation not a requirement. But we take recommendations very seriously.)

This was a requirement when I started in banking back in the dark ages, but I saw it phased out more than 15 years ago. Anyone else see this come up in a recent exam? Or does anyone else still require this?

We don't require two consecutive weeks; however we do require 5 consecutive days.

Yes, the OCC brought it up this year too. We have selected 5 consecutive days as a minimum. Anyone telecommuting also has the VPN disconnected for this time.

At least one week of PTO must be taken in 5 consecutive days for us.

We're still required to take two weeks together, unless an employee only has two weeks per year.

So you can't just take a Friday or Monday off for a long weekend?

That would suck. I use about 1/2 my time in 1 or two day increments and the other half in week long increments.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
in smaller banks, it is hard to grant single days...when I was a correspondent banker, many of our customer banks had less than 50 employees, some required all vacation to be taken at the same time...and you can forget about any more than 2 weeks ever coming to you.

Before this thread gets 50 posts long, if you are interested in reading about a thousand comments on this subject do a search on the word "consecutive" and limit your search to the HR forum and if you then still feel a need to comment, by all means - add something new. smile

Hmmm... I did that prior to posting the question, but was looking for something more recent. We opened in 2000, and this has never been mentioned in any exam or external audit. I was most curious to hear if it is resurfacing.

We require 5 days bound by weekends--I think that is the key that keeps OCC ok with us.

I've seen it where it works. A comptroller had a letter from the state indicating an increase rate in doc. stamps. When he was on his forced 2 weeks off, an admin found the 6 month old letter under a stack of papers. Unfortunately, the bank had to go back 2 months and apply the additional doc stamps to all internal loans.

Make sure you suspend any remote access, otherwise, the objective for the "time off" may be moot (may depend on the person's roles and responsibilities and what his remote access can allow him/her to do.)
