nd if anyone is familiar with how refineries work, turnarounds are done in 2-3 days at worst case, not 2-3 weeks.

in my neck of the woods, where there are many refineries, when a turnaround is taking place, it is all hands on deck, no vacation, if you call in sick you better have Ebola (or worse), and they are paid a ton of overtime money, usually working 12-16 hour shifts. And that is all included in the union contract. If the refinery is closed, they don't make money, plain and simple.

Face it. We're manipulated with regards to fuel prices.
$3.19 here in mid-west Texas. Some $2.98 in the Fort Worth area according to my dad.

The US has a surplus of crude but because of crude futures being tied to the middle east price of crude the price for gas is not dropping nearly close to the rate it should. We need to go back to making futures trading illegal on any energy or food related goods. You would see the prices drop by 40% in less than a year if not more.
Personally I would be happy to outlaw all futures trading as it is juts legalized gambling for the poor and legalized class warfare by the rich. (Then again so its the lotto) ^_^

If one person should be protected from price risk all should be. The experiment of special treatment for special groups did not better our countries economy nor did it decrease the cost of living. History clearly shows that government action in the market has rarely had a positive long term impact.

some farmers can make more money by not growing crops than they can by growing them...thank you subsidies from the USDA... History clearly shows that government action in the market has rarely had a positive long term impact.

History clearly shows that government action in the market has rarely had a positive long term impact. I still don't see how crop futures are "special treatment" or what it has to do with the government. A farmer contracts with a guy to sell him 100,000 bu of corn next February at $x.00 a bushel. The farmer is just trying to stay in business. Who is harmed? "If one person should be protected from price risk all should be." To meet your condition, the government not the market has to set the price. Welcome to the USSR.
