TV poker is fun to watch, but it paints a very unrealistic picture of real poker. Obviously, they are only going to show "action" hands where there's a lot of drama, but 99% of poker is fairly boring. I've gone 5 hours in a tournament without playing a single hand. People who try to play real poker, thinking they should play every hand, are destined to lose big.

I play a fair bit of poker myself; though I can honestly say I've never come close to playing 5 hours without playing a hand. I consider myself a patient player and often fold before the flop, but playing too conservatively may lend itself to player tells as much as habitual betting and over-agressive play. Just curious, what game do you play? I rarely step outside of Hold'em.

I play Hold'em too. The tournament I was in was a 3 day tournament with a fairly high buy-in ($600) so it was higher end players, so not a lot of speculative hands were played. I was absolutely card dead. I ended up cashing in the tournament, so I think I played it fairly well.

I like to play Limit and chase. That's what my friends and I play and the river always beats a flop hand by someone staying in longer than they should.

Played tennis, football and softball from grade school through HS so the teachers often made me play leadership roles in PE for Soccer, rugby and basketball and more. Did not enjoy many of them. I probably would have enjoyed rugby more if they had not destroyed the rules in a crazy attempt to make it safe for HS kids. Only ever played baseball or softball because I was begged. I could hit, run, and pitch, but I did not ever have fun. Not sure why, normally a kid should enjoy a sport he is good at.

Happy Gilmore - billiards and poker...interesting, as i'm not sure i'd call either a sport...
Correct. And neither is golf or bowling. Those are games, not sports. Happy Gilmore - ..i love watching australian rules football I love Australian rules football! But don't ask me to explain the rules....lol I am embarrassed to admit that, I too, prefer watching women play billiards. Perhaps because my daughter is an avid and very talented player.

Swiggles, how do you define "sports?" And I'm guessing you can't hit a golf ball.

Not Swiggles, but I define a sport by the presence of a defense. In golf, it's you against the course and the best score wins - no defense so I would consider it a talent or a skill competition. In billiards, your opponent can play defense by putting you "behind the 8 ball" so to speak, so I would consider that a sport.

By that definition, checkers is a sport.

Per Dictionary.com..... Sport is defined as an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc
Another definition provided by the same website.....an individual or group activity pursued for exercise or pleasure, often involving the testing of physical capabilities and taking the form of a competitive game such as football, tennis, etc
According to those definitions, pretty much anything which requires any type of physical skill set would be considered sport. Billiards - yes....poker - no. Golf - yes...checkers - no. etc

^ Hopefully Montgomery is able to recover in time for the Denver game next week. This by week was much needed. Especially after the defense was on the field for almost 40 minutes the last game.

Getting by the D may be tricky....but if the Packers can manage 24+ points, they should be in good position....unless there's a sudden change of Manning, which isn't looking realistic any time soon.

Denver hasn't been known for offense so far this year (ironic, isn't it?). So a 17 point cusion should be a fairly comfortable lead, as long as they don't get cocky and continue to play.

In billiards, your opponent can play defense by putting you "behind the 8 ball" so to speak, so I would consider that a sport. ** Amendment to my definition: In addition to my defense requirement, I would also add that it can't be a sport if you can eat while doing it and/or you don't have to change clothes to do it competitively (bowling, poker, checkers, etc). I was going to add the requirement that a sport has to be shown on ESPN, but then I remember watching a Scrabble tournament on ESPN a few years ago.

I don't foresee the Packers having any problems against the Broncos, but you never know what may happen from week to week. At the beginning of the season most people were picking Seattle to again be a championship contender but so far this year they have really struggled. And the Packers are sort of in the same boat, at least the past few weeks. The offense has been mediocre at best but the defense has stepped up. They've bent but not broken. If you look at the stats from this past week, yea they gave up 500 passing yards. But they were on the field for 38 minutes of a 60 minute game and only gave up 20 points and when they needed to make a stand on the last drive of the game inside the 5 they did, even though I'm sure they were running on fumes. In my mind, I think they are possibly a top ten defense even though the stats may say otherwise. That's just my opinion though.
