Gah, the mesquite are in bloom. Not only does it stink, but the pollen coats everything!

Can anyone explain to me why we do this horrible thing to ourselves and is it worth it? I lived in AZ for 5 years and loved not having to make the change and the adjustment that goes with it.

I, personally, would rather it stay the same...so long as it's with longer daylight and not shorter ones.

I think that a protest is in order. We should protest the sun for not conforming to our clock and calendar.

RR I feel the same as you. Now that we have longer evenings with light leave it where it is.

Is there anyone who can explain why we change? I can't imagine we go through all this pain and no one knows why....

Or is this another case of "we've always done it this way".

I've heard it had to do with farming...then I heard it had to do with school children catching the bus. Neither makes much sense to me as most farmers I know don't work by a clock and changing the time earlier (as they do now) makes it dark to catch the bus...and some of the buses run before daybreak regardless of time of year.

It's a mystery to me.

Why do we have Daylight Saving Time?



The main reason for daylight savings time is to make the most out of daylight as long as possible and save energy. If people are awake during the sun, people will use natural light and turn on their home lights later. Therefore, less electricity will be used.

Delaying the nominal time of sunset and sunrise reduces the use of artificial light in the evening and increases it in the morning.

I'd prefer we stay with daylight savings time year round. I enjoy the light to do outdoor activities in the evening. But regardless I hate the change both ways!

We are worried about 3.5% of the energy being consumed?!!!!? What a load of carp! I can only imagine the loss of productivity and its associated costs on the economy. Besides, with the advent of LED bulbs the savings are laughable.

I'm running for president in 2020 and my main platform is to get rid of Standard Time and eliminate the standard units of measure and replace them with metric.
