This might be a simple answer for you all. Our Cashier's Checks are in triplicate. We have signed the top copy with carbon between the other 2 pages so the signature will come through on all three. The bank we are merging with disagrees and thinks only the original top page should be signed. Any thoughts?

I agree that it does not make a difference.... the MICR should not be on the carbon copies, so it's not like they could be used as transit items.

We had carbon-set cashier's checks back in the day, too. The area in which the signature impression was made was marked out with a black pattern on the two copies, to mask the signature.

We had 3 part forms and the signature appeared on each. There were times when it was helpful to know which employee signed the item before it was actually presented for payment, but rlcarey's response reflects my level of concern as well. I don't see any likelihood of a clearly labeled copy sans a MICR line escaping into the clearing system.

The signature on the carbon copy also tells you at a quick glance if someone is exceeding their authority levels when signing cashiers' checks.

Ours are three part with carbon and auditing to the sigs on the copy (as ocb said) is easier. From our recent merger....make sure everyone is shredding the carbons.

Most banks that have moved into the 21srt century don't have printed CCs anymore. They are printed as needed from the teller platform. Auditing to signatures on carbon copies is pretty much 60's auditing procedures. If you want to audit signatures, just audit the presented documents.
