I really hope I reach a point in the foreseeable future where I can concentrate more on making a difference rather than making money.

THIS! I think I'd like to be a cross country coach. Running with the kids in the summer over the last few years, especially watching the girls grow up and be empowered through running, makes me very happy. I don't think I'd like to be a teacher though.

My DREAM job would be to be in charge of a foundation disbursing money to individuals / organizations in need (at my own discretion)! And I would love to have more time to volunteer. Maybe someday...

I would have been a stay-at-home mom. Math teacher would be my second choice. Accountant my third.

I would have been a stay-at-home mom. You know I have the dream career, but I often wonder how different my life could have been had I stayed at home. My kids are raised in this frantic environment of jumping in the car and racing off to some event, having to pack in the morning for afterschool activities and constantly eating from what we refer to as the "snack bucket" in the back of the car. They are in school now, so my days would not be filled with toddlers roaming the house, singing the alphabet song and coloring together, but... Sometimes I have that dream of leisurely getting them out of the door, washing the bfast dishes right then so I'm not coming home to a dirty kitchen, cleaning the house, doing some laundry, having a second cup of coffee next to the bird feeder, gardening in the late morning, joining the afternoon bible study group, crafting with the kids afterschool, helping with homework while the sun is still shining, once in a while eating something not out of a crock pot, spending those evenings with some hubby time rather than using it for housecleaning/laundry/tomorrows dinner/laundry. Okay....back to reality....where is that appraisal I spent last night reviewing after I got everyone to bed?

So, I guess it's pretty safe to say that few of us are working in a career that is "fun" or "fulfilling" (feel free to disagree). Thus, the question arises, if you had a "do over", what would you be doing for a career?
For myself, it would probably be my first love, architectural design/drafting, or my second love, automobile restoration. You? Well, the question and the thread title speak of two different scenarios. My perfect/fantasy job would be a sailboat charter boat captain in the Caribbean My do-it-over again job would probably be either a homebuilder or a geologist. Something that gets me outside from time to time.

Ditto to everything Corny said. I would just like to live at a slower pace and get to enjoy the kids instead of always being rushed to get stuff done!! That being said I'm leaving at 2 to go to the little one's play. I'm almost as excited about being home by 3 as I am to go to the play! Must admit, CO, that one of the perks of this job is letting the BOD know that I have to go on first since it's my son's first cello recital. Move the auditor up the agenda, please!

Tried this but it was to hard on the vocal cords. Now I am trying out as an underpaid soon to be divorced IT manager. So far it is not as good as it sounds.
