One more thought about what can happen in Alaska - just shopping can be a real experience, as you can see by my avatar. It looks like this poor guy was just walking down a snowy Alaska block. Watch out for the Moose in Alaska! This does not happen in the lower 48!

Not only does it not happen in the lower 48, it doesn't happen in the way out in the water 1 either! (Hawaii)

Many years ago when traveling through the grand teton mountains we came across a moose resting in a field. My wife took a picture of me crouched down beside it about 20 feet away. It is a cool picture, but had I seen this video or any of those "when animals attack" shows I don't think I would have gotten that close! We were also very close to a huge bull elk in Estes Colorado. They can also turn very aggressive.

One last observation - does that moose remind anyone else of the show "Northern Exposure"?

I didn't like the show when it first aired, but when I caught it in reruns for some reason I absolutely LOVED it.

Paragon, of all the sequences that you have shared, this particular choice does not give one that "warm and fuzzy feeling" as some of the other ones have, IMO.
I think "disturbing" is quite an understatement.
Sorry.

I understand, but people should not bother Moose, so think of this avatar as a public service announcement.

Well, in that case, "Thank-you" and "Keep up the good work".

I too thought it was a little disturbing having seen similar attacks while waiting at a bus stop many years ago. I still remember my friend running down the road and jumping into a huge snowburm in an attempt to get away. Luckily someone pulled over and rescued her.

In general moose will not attack unless provoked. The reason this one did, I suspect, is because the guy was walking between the calf and mom. Anytime a mom is with child they are much more agressive.

Well there you go - that explains the 'attack' so, this public service announcement is: Don't fool around with Moose and, for sure, don't get between a Moose Mom and the Mom's Calf. If you do, you will be Moose stomped.

When the guy was a kid, he saw this moose, pointed and called him Bullwinkle, repeatedly. That's what happened. I know I wrote it, uh, read it on the Internet.

I must say, Paragon, your series of avatars are entertaining, odd and get attention. Sometimes I just want to blow them up to see them better.

That is exactly how I feel, well, except for today's 'public service announcement'! Most have been creative, entertaining and well thought out.

I hunted deer for many years in Maine and during that time, saw the comeback of the moose population. There were times when they did in fact follow us through the woods like bullwinkle. Needless to say, where there were moose, usually you do not find deer because they compete for the same food sources. They are a majestic animal to watch.

KCGeoQueen: Sometimes I'm thinking that you actually live is a galaxy far away. When you receive a message as noted above, go to the URL and cut in down to a URL ending in .com

That will take you to the primary site that Andy had in mind for you with links posted there to specific pages noted in Andy's post. Of course, you know that, correct?

Paragon, we sound a little "testy" today?

I suppose you are right, but it really surprises me when professional types, like bankers, have no clue when it comes to foraging around the internet. One wonders how that translates to the working environment as knowing how things work on the internet is vital and that knowledge provides a way to lower the stress level as information is readily available when the pressure is on.

I'll just go back to the cave.

No, not a nerve, a pet peeve. I'm betting that you have at least one - I have more than I should.

Paragon, I was going to comment on how your kitty looks like one I lost to diabetes just after 9/11 but as I read the thread I was verbally assulted because I am not as internetly (yes I made that up)astute as you are. Please forgive me as don't spend much time on the internet.

You could have just explained to me in layman's terms what I was doing wrong and it would have been much more effective.
