Not only does it not happen in the lower 48, it doesn't happen in the way out in the water 1 either! (Hawaii)

Many years ago when traveling through the grand teton mountains we came across a moose resting in a field. My wife took a picture of me crouched down beside it about 20 feet away. It is a cool picture, but had I seen this video or any of those "when animals attack" shows I don't think I would have gotten that close! We were also very close to a huge bull elk in Estes Colorado. They can also turn very aggressive.
One last observation - does that moose remind anyone else of the show "Northern Exposure"?

I didn't like the show when it first aired, but when I caught it in reruns for some reason I absolutely LOVED it.

I too thought it was a little disturbing having seen similar attacks while waiting at a bus stop many years ago. I still remember my friend running down the road and jumping into a huge snowburm in an attempt to get away. Luckily someone pulled over and rescued her.
In general moose will not attack unless provoked. The reason this one did, I suspect, is because the guy was walking between the calf and mom. Anytime a mom is with child they are much more agressive.

When the guy was a kid, he saw this moose, pointed and called him Bullwinkle, repeatedly. That's what happened. I know I wrote it, uh, read it on the Internet.  I must say, Paragon, your series of avatars are entertaining, odd and get attention. Sometimes I just want to blow them up to see them better.

Paragon, I was going to comment on how your kitty looks like one I lost to diabetes just after 9/11 but as I read the thread I was verbally assulted because I am not as internetly (yes I made that up)astute as you are. Please forgive me as don't spend much time on the internet. You could have just explained to me in layman's terms what I was doing wrong and it would have been much more effective.
