We are hearing from several sources that at a certain level of mortgage volume we should have more than one appraisal management company that we use. Is anyone else hearing this? What criteria are you using? I'd be interested to learn from others that are using multiple AMCs on how that process works operationally.

Did you ever hear anything more about this? We are being told by one of our mortgage loan investors that we are NOT allowed to use more that one AMC. We use four right now depending on the type of loan and the geographic region.

The only thing I've heard on this is the general appraisal independence requirements, basically that you don't switch between AMCs to get different valuations or to reward higher valuations. I haven't heard of requiring more than one AMC. All I've heard has been that having more than one AMC takes a little more oversight to guarantee the AIR compliance.

Perhaps having more than one due to business continuity concerns?
