No one has posted to the exercising thread in three weeks. I must not be the only one who has slacked off a bit and gained 5 pounds.

Way, way south.
An interesting article about how cardio exercise actually destroys muscle and tone and a person may be thinner, but they’re less healthy as cardio increases cortisol. Much better to lift weights, even lighter weights for more reps and do less cardio and probably yoga. Just a different train of thought on cardio:

Running and riding everywhere ...
I'm still trying to get my groove back after the stress fracture. Its been slow. I was able to run a 5K last night without walk breaks and the leg feels good. Sadly, taking the winter off didn't slow down my running partner/dog as much as it did me. She drug me the whole first half!

flopping burns a ton of calories, they are kind of like an enhanced burpee if you think about it...

I'll up you, Happy. I've lost 16 or so and all I did (unlike Oprah) was quit eating bread. I'm not sure I needed to lose that much...but that's all I did and I did. crazy

I have a friend an all he did was cut out breads and sugars and he lost 55 lbs. No changes to activity rates or anything else. He looks like a totally different person. When people ask him how much he has lost he will reply "I lost an average 8 year old child"

serious question (I know, that's rare), all sugars and breads all the time? what about sugars in fruit and vegetables? what about milk?

what about other carbs such as pasta?

They are all bad for diet but you need to eat something.

Personally, I drink lots of milk (whole, organic) I will eat occasional crackers, pasta. I don't deprive myself of sugar, but don't over-indulge either. I also wouldn't turn away an occasional buttery yeasty roll. smile

Good questions Peepers,
Naturally occurring sugars is ok but don't ask me to define what constitutes "naturally occurring", they just cut out soda, candy, sweets, stuff like that. They could eat all the fruits and vegetables they wanted.

eat some raisins, avocados, mangos and some dried figs.

They each have more calories than a can of beer (there may be additional calories in the can)

I just checked with him and he couldn't do pasta either. I am sure this is a tough diet to keep, but I can't get over the results he and his wife experienced.

Interesting, thanks Chucker

I wonder if there is a middle ground, i.e. cut all that out during the week but allow a day to eat some of that or eat some of that in moderation or it's cold turkey

If you are really serious check out the phases. The diet is about chemicals (in food)

well, i'm not a huge fan of bananas, and it is a requirement when making PB&J to put chips on the sandwich...I just don't see this working with a banana...next, you'll be telling me I shouldn't be drinking vitamin d whole milk, but 2% or skim...
