Our bank is currently not a HMDA reporter but I'm thinking we might be in future. Where is a good resource to try and get started to try to get an understanding of it and also to see if our city is a MSA or not?

I would recommend this website: http://www.ffiec.gov/hmda/ and https://www.ffiec.gov/hmda/guide.htm Look for the 2010 A Guide To HMDA Reporting link near the bottom of the page. You'll find everything there, including how to find if you are in an MSA.

BUT - be aware that the regs are changing, and depending on what length of time "in the future" means, you might want to look at the new regulations, which become generally effective January 2018.

I don't have a link to the new regs, but maybe someone here does. You may even be able to find them posted here at BOL.

Plenty of webinars/training on the new rule right now. A lot of the training right now if focusing on the new rules for who will subject to HMDA and who will not. Might be worth looking into some seminars/webinars.

I heard a joke during a presentation that there were two years until the new rules went into effect... which give me two years to find a new job.

I often think of that when reading through the Final Rule
