Wife is wanting me to drop $3k on a new SleepNumber bed because ours is trying to cripple us one night at a time.

Anyone purchased one of these?

Yes, Great bed but not worth the money.

As I told my wife at the time "you sleep then you get up, that is all".

How the heck did mankind survive for millenia without all these costly ways to sleep, breathe, eat, and live in a/c?

I inherited one when I bought my house and didn't want to spend the money to replace it right away. It was better than sleeping on the floor or the couch but not by much. On the up side, when I did buy a new bed the sleep number sold within minutes when listed on craigslist and I got about 10 times more than I thought it was worth out of it.

Way, way south.
We bought an off-brand memory foam bed a couple years ago, and I'll never go back to an inner spring mattress. Love it.

Yeah, wait until year 3. That's what we did. It was great, but now it is pure murder.

It eventually just compressed and doesn't bounce back the way it used to. I think the gist of it is that we are basically sleeping on our platform now.

But don't take this to heart. One of my biggest problems with any online content is that people take any statement and run with it. Your mattress may end up being fine. But you should really watch out for monsters under the bed, those things are real.

We have a decent inner spring mattress (can't remember the brand) but my wife bought some sort of bamboo memory mattress pad the just makes it extremely comfortable.

We got to try out a SleepNumber bed when we stayed at a bed and breakfast earlier this year.

Was a bust (not literally).

Battery in the mattress control was dead and the bed was deflated. Flat SleepNumber beds are uniquely unimpressive, like lying on a plastic tablecloth spread over a wooden picnic table. It was late and we were weary. Hated to have to call the off-premises proprietor to return at midnight. We lay there on the deflated thing, staring at the ceiling and discussing whether or not to try to find a battery at a convenience store in a small town that might not even have all-night convenience stores. I see a smoke alarm. Would its battery fit the mattress control? The ceiling was 12 foot high as the place was built in the 1850s. Still, no guts no glory so various antique furniture was carefully stacked and climbed on to reach the smoke alarm. It must be disclosed that no furniture was harmed in this battery quest even with my 6'3" 225 lb bulk. Amazingly enough, the retrieved battery fit, the control worked, and the mattress inflated perfectly to our individual whims.

Felt really yuck to our bodies. Cheapo. No setting was comfortable. We would have felt really dumb and really ripped off to have ever paid money for a similar mattress. Go to a public pool and appropriate the cheapest pool float you can safely rob from some little kid. Stretch it out on the concrete at poolside and try lying on it while airing it up to different pressure levels. If you find something you like, get the SleepNumber bed.

Where I am supposed to be
We have a memory foam mattress (actually 2 twin mattresses) with adjustable power bases. The zero gravity setting is great for the low back and my wife is able to keep her surgically repaired ankles above her heart while she sleeps. We have been very happy with both the mattresses and the power bases.

We have one of these. It's of very old-fashioned mattress design and construction. Despite that fact, it wasn't inexpensive at the time. At the time we purchased it 10 years ago the company was touting the fact that these mattresses had been the choice to furnish White House for many years. It is much nicer than "old-fashioned" would suggest and is very comfortable. It has proven to be durable as well. We turn it regularly and this seems to enhance its life. It's as good now as it was when we bought it.

I notice the company has a lot of more modern lines with the gimmick-y features. I'd prefer to get another one like the one we have over those others.

It really has been a fantastic mattress. Have had it almost eight years now, and barely able to see the body dips in the pillowtop.

Still feels great to climb onto every night.

After the week I've had, I could sleep on a concrete floor. However I'll second Jay's Beautyrest recommendation. We've had one for about 6 years and it's in great shape after 3 military moves and a year in storage. So comfy...and it's calling my name...

Sleep number - never again. Comments per above. Also, if there are big differences in numbers, if you cross the center line, it feels like you:
are falling into an abyss and
partner gets bounced up.
