I feel goofy for asking this but I for some reason cannot find the answer.

On a SAR where the customer changed the amount of the cash out to avoid a CTR what do you put in the amount involved field on the SAR, the original amount requested or the $9,900?

IMHO, it would be the amount of the original cash deposit.

I would tend to match the actual transaction that took place but include the original amount the customer was planning on depositing in the narrative.

Per the SAR filing instructions, "Enter the total dollar amount involved in the suspicious activity for the time period of this report." Since the initial deposit amount is part of the total dollar amount involved, that is where I would go with the amount. The narrative should provide the actual amount deposited in relation to the initial amount presented.

We would do the same; actual amount transacted gets reported and then the original amount would be included in the narrative as well as any other relevant facts.

I'm with Big Dog on this one. Definitely the amount of the original/attempted transaction.

I'll just those in agreement with those reporting the actual transaction amount (initial requested amount in the narrative), but note that the OP asked about a cash out transaction. That doesn't change the answer, though.

Thanks all for your input. This discussion is the same discussion I had with myself lol. I ended up putting the original amount in the amount involved. Then in the narrative transcribed how the event occurred.
