Would love to see Ben Folds! The guy is a genius...

I had tickets to see John Prine, but got sick and couldn't go (my boss was grateful for the tickets)

As a consolation, bought tickets to see (please don't judge) Kenny Rogers: The Gambler's Last Deal tour. It was actually fascinating. Set up as 'retrospective', with a big screen tv and lots of old footage, he covered his whole history, starting in the 50's. It was like watching a live documentary. Which is good, because the guy is getting very old, could barely walk onto the stage (he said he'd just had a knee replacement), and didn't have much of a voice left. He wasn't off key or anything, but couldn't sustain the notes, and had very little projection. In lots of places his voice was completely lost behind the band, even after the audience yelled to get his mic turned up. BUT - he still has his charm and his sense of humor, and I'm very glad I went. Even if I was the second youngest person in the audience. smile

We saw Three Dog Night (with only one original singer) on July 3, for free, in Copper Mountain CO.

We saw Steely Dan and Elvis Costello almost a year ago.

Next month, we'll see Paul McCartney.

No judgment from me Mtngrrl. That sounds awesome.

If you are like me, you must have been very sick to miss John Prine.

Ben Folds was the most entertaining show I have been to in a LONG time. We were front row dead center and he had a lot of crowd interaction. He is hysterical and the sextet he had supporting him (Y Music) are incredible performers.

MBH, Elvis Costello is great and I am jealous about you seeing McCartney.

Only concert I have been to was a throw back, Journey, and the Doobies at Mitchell Pavillion in the Woodlands.

Paul McCartney is a fantastic show. We saw them almost 2 years ago in Louisville.

Elvin Bishop is coming to play for our town's free Concert in the Park series. Excited about that one!

And yes, Coffee, missing John Prine was awful. Actually I had a terrible case of poison oak covering my legs and abdomen, and could barely stand to wear pants long enough to be at work. Driving an hour and 15 minutes to see anyone after work was just not an option. frown I'm hoping I still get another chance.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add Garth and Trisha to my list. He was on my music bucket list. He still has it - I thought several times during the show he was going to have a heart attack.

Just saw the KISS "Freedom to Rock" concert this weekend. What an awesome show!

Those guys have been rockin' the platform shoes for over 40 years, but they still got it. Just a fun show all around - quite a spectacle. I was amazed too -- not one curse word was uttered, it was positive (well, Gene Simmons still had the tongue / blood thing going on, but that's just cartoonish), they constantly did things for kids, and were very pro-military. They led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance, and rocked the national anthem after giving $150k to Hire Our Heroes organization. Very cool stuff.

Haven't been to a KISS concert yet this year, but have been many over the years I have lost count.

No more face painting for me though. blush

Pulling people out of the ditc...
Todd Rundgren...was a dang good performance...

other than that, been about 6 years since I've been to a concert...most of the big acts skip New Orleans because there is a high tax rate for concerts...

I did not know that about NOLA. That seems very odd for a city known for its musical heritage.

yes, have a very high tax rate targeting a number of things tourist related...

special tax on hotel rooms
special tax on car rentals
special tax on concerts

all revenue dedicated to the city/state for tourism development and infrastructure, but high none the less
