Did Kaepernick do the right thing by refusing to stand for the National Anthem to bring attention to racial suppression?

It may have had some weigh to it if he still had some football skills. (the ability to throw the ball to at least the opposing players if he no longer could throw to his own)

If he likes sitting down so much, let him sit all year and play Blaine Gabbert.

that will most likely happed due to talent.

I am thinking that this "protest" is due to an excuse for when he does not play or gets cut.

likely this was a staged incident by the NFL to try and get them some press...the NFL has become so boring, it makes Golf look exciting... honestly, preseason football? double yawn...

Stephen A. Smith made a good point this morning, arguing that soldiers do not fight for us to do what they want us to, but rather for the rights we're given by the Constitution - including the right to sit at the National Anthem.

While I don't agree with Kaepernick's actions, I do agree with what Stephen A said. Just an interesting opinion I hadn't heard yet.

I though it may have been his first but read on.

His employers should also have the right to fire him as he signed a contract that most likely has a provision in it prohibiting acts detrimental to the team. (such as starting as QB when his skills have faded to a point where they can not even trade him)

As much as we have the right to disagree with his actions, he has the right to do what he did. Our fundamental rights!

Agreed, in theory, but since it is a written contract, unless there is a loophole for disrespect of the National Anthem, it's pretty much moot. Now, here's a thought...bench him for the rest of the season. No other team will touch him, his stats bottom out, and he fades into obscurity...albeit at the expense of the 49ers...

While I heavily disagree with his choice, it is his choice to make. But I don't understand just how he is oppressed. He's an overpaid, talentless "one year wonder" making more money in a single year than I'll see in a lifetime.....yes, he's definitely oppressed. Defenses have figured out how to contain him and he's no longer a threat. On the plus side, he has made it easy for me....there's now someone out there I can root against more so than Tom Brady!

I just wonder what kind of backlash the Niners will get from this if/when they release him from the team? I imagine that social groups and likely the media as well will ignore statistics and salary which would support his release from any team. They will vilify the act and link it directly to his refusal to stand for the Anthem. And unless he would be willing to reduce his salary and consent to a back-up role I doubt any other team will have him...thus making him a martyr.

I can't help but wonder if that was part of it on his end. Did he do it just because he knew it'd be impossible for the Niners to release him now? Maybe I'm a cynic...
