Running and riding everywhere ...
I hope the fitness craze has helped some people become more active and healthy, but at some point the data tracking has to stop! <<<coming from a data junkie who would seriously freak out with out her Garmin on a run.

I don't track my heart rate or steps, but could with the watch I have. On my phone I could track all sorts of things...nutrition, weight, sleep, body temperature, body fat, BMI, blood pressure. Breathing doesn't surprise me.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
I use the Road ID app when I ride, but simply to notify family when I've left, my course, and when completed. that way if I stop for 5 minutes it sends an alert that they need to check on me. I'm not concerned with monitoring and tracking all the other stuff, I used to do that and it doesn't work for my training.

I had a Fitbit until it fell apart. They sent me a replacement, but it was already broken (wouldn't hold a charge more than a few hours.) So I gave up. I have a watch that will count steps and show my heart rate, but I only use it as a stop watch to time my runs.

NY needs this as they charge a fortune for diving exercises.

MB had an issue with the sports bra thing? laugh

Actually when I was running (about the time when Pale was just a few hundred years old) I found it much more difficult to run inside than out due to boredom.

MB, I read your linked article, and dismissed it after this: "Start off with a doable distance such as two miles. "

I was once a beginning runner, and I've coached C25K beginners, and for most people starting out, 2 miles is impossible. Give me 30 seconds of running, then walk til you recover.

I would think that 2 miles is possibly if you drink enough beer to let you forget that you are running 2 miles.

Anyone ever experienced a swelling eye after a particularly tough workout? I've started working out at lunch and for the second time now my eye is swollen almost shut after a tough workout.

Such a weird deal.

Stop making comments about the heavy set girl in the yoga pants and it should not happen again.

Norman - allergies? indoor or outdoor workout? agree with ed - commenting that the yoga pants make her legs look like moon craters could be particularly damaging

I'm always a gentleman in the gym.

Indoor and outdoor HIIT program. Seems to hit me on some of the higher cardio days, but I've worked out regularly before and this is a new thing. Some reading online seems to indicate it may be a thing (swelling eyes (1 eye in this case) after a workout).

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced it.

Praying for you!

Seriously, I do HIIT three times a week and never had my eye do that. I had one swell up and get funky at a conference and I think it was due to the air conditioning in the hotel, conference room, plane, etc.

Bbgreen, congrats on the upcoming baby. If you are concerned about getting healthier I would start now and not after the baby is born. Being healthy is a habit, not a passing fad and it needs to be a lifestyle not a motivator for one particular event or it won't stick. If there is one thing I have learned it is that we as humans are capable of doing about anything we set our minds. You can do this!

Bbgreen, congrats on the baby! After the birth of both of my girls I lost weight by cutting calories and walking a lot. Remember it took 9 months to gain so give your self time to lose.

Thank you guys! I am very excited, this will be our first, so I am curious to see how my body does after. Fingers crossed for an easy delivery. Eating better is so HARD and I am so picky! We have a great area to walk around where I live so that sounds like a good starting point to me, I can only imagine how out of shape I am since the last time I actually ran.

Zombie/Human workout today at the gym. It was pretty awesome. It's not often that a grown adult gets to chase down another, or vice versa.

Turns out I still have my sprint speed (however short-lived).

Very excited - we purchased a water rower! The husband is off today, so I'm hoping to be able to use it tonight or tomorrow!

new year new you? Happy to say that I actually lost weight this holiday season, instead of gaining it. Make fun of soccer all you want, but nothing drops weight like running after kids half your age for 90 minutes 2-3 days per week!
