What do you do about verifying employment with companies that will not verify employment? [Large tele-marketing type of company].

Deny the loan for failure to verify employment. It is the employee's responsibility to address this with their employer.

Not practical. This is a huge company. Tiny little employees carry zero weight.

Well, I don't see it as having anything to do with a protected class, to be honest. Most companies that are that large and with that many employees simply use The Work Number...but not this one. It's very frustrating.

All I was suggesting is that if you use a work-around, that option needs to be employed for all, regardless of where they work.

At this bank...I'm quite sure they would if an employer won't verify. This is the only company we've run into any issues with.

We put Verification of Employment on all our LEs for instances just like this.
A call to the HR department of the company should get you the name of the company they use.
You may need to have the employee call to get the salary key.
But then you call that company to get the info you need.

We put VOE fees on our LE's 99% of the time. The HR department will not verify...period. They don't use a company, apparently, either or we wouldn't be having an issue.

We are not having a problem verifying income. It's the final "are they still employed there" part that is the problem.

RR - Was this issue resolved?

Can you call them at work? "I am here", and use credit report (or tax statements) for length of employment over x years (put into policy and used for all that you can not verify in a normal way)

RR - I imagine you've already tried this or considered it -- inform the borrower that you're required to confirm with his employer that he's still employed there and that his employer won't play ball, so you're unable to approve the application.

We aren't about to refuse someone based on the 'too big to care' attitude of this company. The loan closed without further ado.

I'm sure that this scenario is one that plays out at many lenders across the country. I would hope that if this is the only technical "flaw" in a lender's ATR analysis, it would be considered trivial.
