As part of our Fraud Alert procedures, we have included a step to contact the Credit Bureau on confirmed fraud attempts and remove our credit report request since this can have a negative impact on the legitimate consumer's credit score. We have recently received push-back from Equifax saying that based on Section 609 of FCRA they cannot remove that hit on their credit bureau record. Does anyone else include this step in their procedures or can anyone confirm that the credit bureau does not do this? Otherwise, do we just recommend that our legitimate victim of attempted fraud as the bureau to remove it?
