Where could I find some direction on dormant accounts? I have already found the Uniform Unclaimed Property Act from the SC Legislature but of course it only addresses escheat. What I am looking for is a determination of the time frames we should use for dormancy on checking vs savings vs CD. (i.e. Checking 12 months, savings 24 months, etc.)I have been researching and want to be sure that I have not by passed a regulation. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Dormant is determined by state law.

Inactivity is defined by your bank.

If my research is correct...in South Carolina dormant would be escheat and inactivity would be dormant. So that means we can choose the dormant/inactive time frames. Sounds good to me. Thank you for your input!

GM, Dormant and Inactive are bank terms. The law about abandoned property is http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t27c018.php
