I think I'd rather have a Creamy Brandy Alexander please. It was a tradition of my dad's to make those Christmas Eve for family members "of age".

Christmas always brought about a round of Tom and Jerrys when I was growing up; my grandpa made them every year. As my Norwegian great-grandmother would say, "I'll take another Tom and Yerry, Bert!" I've tried them, but they just never hit my palate quite right. Same with egg nog itself. It's one of those things I'd love to love because of family tradition, but I just can't bring myself to ask for a Tom and Yerry. smile

Tom and Jerry's have that paste in them, don't they? I remember my in-laws having one in those small cups with a little spoon. As for egg nog....it's the nog that will scare you. Creamy Brandy Alexander sounds awesome..

There is a batter of sorts that goes into a Tom and Jerry, definitely. A lot of stores here in the upper Midwest even sell the premade batter this time of year. As a former English instructor, I shudder to mention Wikipedia here, but they've got the quick, simplified description of the drink: "Preparation: Separate Eggs, Beat Egg Whites until stiff. Mix Egg Yolks with Powdered Sugar, Put spoonful of yolk mixture in cup, mix with brandy and rum, Fold in some Egg White then add hot milk and top with more Egg White, stir gently to fold in the egg white. Top with Nutmeg." And yes, the chaotic capitalization is all Wikipedia. smile

I'm with you on the Creamy Brandy Alexander; I'm definitely intrigued by that one.

My Southern husband grew up with boiled custard (non-alcoholic). When I was young my dad would give each of us a small shot of eggnog (non-alcoholic) every night. LOVE the sweet flavor of the stuff - and it brings back wonderful memories. Don't buy it myself - too many calories. Ha!

I have heard that some people from the south are alcoholics but I did not know that it was so bad that when you found one that isn't it needs to be clarified
