New thread started due to complaints about the timeliness of the old one.

A Man Called Ove A good read, poignant, but it made me laugh out loud a few times; e.g. "the crazy pregnant foreign lady" is actually an important character. (It's prounouced oovay if anyone cares.)

I'm listening to ( Norm) Runner by Patrick Lee. It's book 1 of the Sam Dryden series. A retired special forces op who rescues a young girl who has escaped from some sort of quasi-government drug trials. So far it's very good and would make a great movie.

I just finished listening to "A Man Called Ove" as well and found it very heartfelt with a laugh thrown in as well here and there. I recommended to a co-worker. “He was a man of black and white. And she was color. All the color he had.”

That's two recommendations; I'm picking it up!

I also need to re-read The Circle. I liked that one when it came out, but my teen wants to read. I just don't remember enough the details. Maybe I can sneak it into the spouse's queue!

I need to get through The Bone Tree so that I can move on to the latest Fannie Flagg. I hate when I am feel like I am slogging through a book.

Read The Martian a couple months ago. Very good read, if you can get through the technical jargon.

I'm a lot quicker to bail on a book these days. Life is too short to force myself to read something I don't want to.

Recently read Elin Hilderbrand's "The Matchmaker" and "Winter Street". Enjoy all of her books.

I am going to download the last installment of Jeffrey Archer's "Clifton Chronicles" tonight. The 7th and final. Looking forward to this one.

I'm reading The Most Distressful Country, the first in a three part series about the rise of nationalism in Ireland. This one focuses on 1798 to the 1860s. They're by Robert Kee, a noted historian from England. They were published in 1972, in the midst of the "Troubles" in Ireland, and so he doesn't have the perspective of seeing a peaceful 2017 Ireland.

Admittedly, there are probably only a few dozen nuts like me that would read this sort of thing, outside of a university.

"Killing the Rising Sun" by Bill O'Reilly. This entire series reflects a yeoman's unadorned writing style and something short of a "new" perspective on history. Regardless, I've enjoyed all that I've read. (I buy them in spite of the fact the "author" is pompous.) I had forgotten a lot about the end of WW II, in particular the stories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, something none of us should never forget.

Back Blast - Mark Greaney, 5th in his Gray Man series...if you like action thrillers, you have to read this guy.

The Things We Wish Were True - Marybeth Mayhew Whalen

It was on a list of books I might like and so far it's a good story. A little slow moving at times (get to the point already) but good storytelling.

I am zipping through The Whole Town's Talking by Fannie Flagg.

I'm currently rereading Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series. Just started on Changes.

Just finished Kim Harrison's The Turn. It started off slow, but I liked the end.

The Shack, by Wm Paul Young. My mom just found it be so engaging; and my sister told my mom about it initially.

True Heroes Series by Piper J. Drake.

They actually take place in the area I grew up in.

Someone just recommended this to me, she said it's the best book she ever read.

I just started 1Q84. I'm hoping I like it, it definitely gets mixed reviews.

I'm listening to this on my daily commute now too. So far, I can picture Ove as Clint Eastwood but I'm only 3 chapters in and that may change.

I just started Empire of the Summer Moon. It's about Quanah Parker and the rise and fall of the Comanche tribe. So far it's fascinating and full of brutality. Especially interesting to me since it ends very near where I live. I can't wait for my commute to listen more.

Great story...basis for the movie, The Searchers.

My last book club book was "Rosemary: The Forgotten Kennedy Daughter." It was really eye-opening and sparked great discussion. The changes in attitudes toward mental retardation is startling and thought-provoking.

I just finished James Lee Burke's Last Train to Elysian Fields...so need to pick something up...
