Never heard of it, so I googled it:
The barndominium, is a neologism that is a portmanteau of barn and condominium with multiple meanings. One definition refers to a type of steel building. A non-traditional structure, the barndominium is a steel frame and sheet metal building, originally designed as a storage building or barn structure that has been repurposed by the addition of living areas to previously open space.

Sounds like it's a dwelling to me. If so, report it.

Different question but still "Is it HMDA reportable". If a borrower inquires if they can qualify for a home loan and we do not have 5 pieces of information for HMDA but after pulling their credit report it was decided we had to issue a denial is this HMDA reportable?

Totally different question smile

Did they have a property identified or was it a pre-qual?

Not true in my corner of the world, Texas. These are now, often designed AND built from the outset as a barn with living space,... sometimes, very nice living space.

In 95% of the inquiries there is no property selected at that time. Just shopping around.

Pre-quals are not reportable.

we do not have 5 pieces of information for HMDA
What 5 pieces are you referring to?

HMDA definition of application is "Application means an oral or written request for a home purchase loan, a home improvement loan, or a refinancing that is made in accordance with procedures used by a financial institution for the type of credit requested." [§1003.2]

OK
These " non-traditional structure, the barndominium is a steel frame and sheet metal building, originally designed as a storage building or barn structure that has been repurposed by the addition of living areas to previously open space" sound a lot like what i see referenced around here as "shomes" (shop/homes i suppose).

Barndominiums (sp?) are big business in Texas and especially the Hill Country area. They are very much built as a residence, not an after thought.

My wife wants to live in one now.

Just what my daughters room looks like right now!
