At one of my early jobs, I had a boss who always wrote ect. instead of etc. So I casually brought up in conversation about how it was a pet peeve of mine and she mentioned this Yul Brynner guy saying it as what she used to remember how to spell it correctly, as if she spelled it right. Another gal was in the office and pointed out to her that she spelled it wrong on the sign she has posted in the office. It was pretty comical! smile

When people say "I seen" instead of "I saw", it's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

So Cal
One day after work I met some friends at the driving range. Afterwards, one of the guys asked if we wanted to have a beer at the clubhouse.

I actually responded "I ain't gotta be nowhere" then quickly followed up with"except maybe grammar class." laugh

Father John Misty has a humorous song involving a malapropism. It is about a self-centered ex and is very funny (with very foul language).

I give credit for this terror to Florida Georgia Line and the BroCountry genre in general. They often throw around "could care less" like no one notices.

I couldn't care less about their c ra p music.

irregardless of your thoughts or ability to care or care less, you seem to be quite knowledgeable about the entire genre and purveyors of such, so maybe you really do care...or are your porpoises just intensive?

This may be a New England thing, but I hate it when people say "and then she/he goes" instead of "and then she/he said". I used to have a boss who graduated from an Ivy League College with a degree in English and she used to say this all of the time!

that reminds me of one of those judge episodes from years ago (either Wapner or Judy)

someone was trying to explain events and tried to state, "and then she goes" and the judge kept cutting them off and yelling "I don't care where they went, what did they say?!"

'like' as a repetitive filler word over and over ad nauseam.
It's especially bad when following in phrases such as "...and then she like goes like..."
Just shoot me now.

Or what I have noticed more and more recently when someone responds to a question, "So,... "

I work with youth outside my day to day job and I constantly have to deal with the "and then she like goes like...". I asked a girl, the biggest offender, if she was writing a letter or a text would she include all the "likes". She got all huffy but I am proud to say the usage has dropped by half.

Is anyone else a little paranoid writing in this thread, hoping they are not using any of the above? smile
