Starting a 2 week plant-based cleanse. I'm very excited about it, but not looking forward to the detox symptoms... or seeing anyone with pizza!!!

This morning I woke up and drank a lemon and apple cider vinegar concoction and made a green smoothie. Lunch is a HUGE greek salad thing. I can't imagine I will be able to eat it all. Tonight is a quinoa salad.

Wish me luck! (and maybe stay away until about day 5.... my husband is concerned about the irritability possibility)

Lemon AND ACV? shocked!

FWIW, I love each individually in a glass of water smile

Yes! I made a week's worth yesterday.. but if I remember, it also has water, cinnamon, raw honey and a dash of salt. It wasn't too bad.

Good luck basil! I've never done a full plant cleanse but I drink detox water a couple times a week. Just water with lemon, cucumber, mint and ginger.

ComplianceOkie, tell me more about the weekly cleanse you do - what benefits have you observed from doing this?

I did a juice cleanse and wisely started it on a Friday after work, before a 3-day weekend when I intentionally had no social plans. It was tough to stick to because I love solid foods, but it helped clean everything out. Lost a bit around my waist, which was what I was looking for (I don't own scales, so I don't weigh myself--unless I'm house sitting for someone who has scales). All I can say is, if you haven't tried a huge shift in your diet be prepared for your body to react. I felt like someone kicked my pipes and dislodged some junk, knowhatimsayin?

I tried one of these once and my guts haven't been the same since and it has been over a year.

Mine causes me to urinate quite a bit. I do drink equal parts of regular water just to make sure I stay hydrated. I feel like it cleans out my kidneys and liver. It doesn't make me lose weight or inches or anything like that. I just generally feel refreshed. Plus it tastes really good.

Your Grandfather did a cleanse one time. It focused on rations eaten out of a helmet while sitting in bombed out bunker in Normandy.

He turned out okay.

OK, let me just say I am in detox mode already. I have a splitting headache for one. But, I know it's something I have to get through and hopefully it will be gone tomorrow or the next. It's just all that nasty stuff exiting my body! (Go away and don't come back!)

Here's the long story on how I found the cleanse... about 2 months ago I purchased a juicer from Amazon and searched for a juicing guide/recipe book also. I came across The Big Book of Juices by Vanessa Simkins. In the book, I learned the author had a website allaboutjuicing.com After I visited the site, I signed up for her juice club, which was somewhere in the $50-75 range for a year. Each week you get 7 new juicing recipes and 7 new smoothie recipes, plus a shopping list for each. She varies them, so you get a good range of nutrients. I have been following the juicing recipes and I have not found one I have not liked... and a few had ingredients in them I didn't like.

Anyway... that website also shows the cleanse too (scroll down to the juice cleanses section). I am doing the Clean 14. You drink the lemon elixir in the morning, then have a juice or smoothie for breakfast, and then lunch and dinner are plant-based menus. Last night was a quinoa salad with asparagus and red peppers. It was crazy delicious. Lunch was basically a greek salad (cucumber, red onion, tomato, red pepper, green pepper, black olives and a lemon/olive oil/garlic/oregano dressing.

Not a good way but it sounds like I am more the exception in this case.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
you may want to do a bit of research on the myth of "detoxing" You're liver and kidney does all the detoxing you need. Anything you buy to "detox" simply cleanses your wallet.
