Customer called in to transfer $ from her ex's account to her account. Obviously she had the answers to the security questions. The ex states that he did not authorize the transfer. We reversed the funds, so there was no loss involved. Is this SAR worthy?
The attempted transfers did not aggregate to $5,000. Either way the account will be closed and she will be sent on her way.
thank you for your input.

If it below the reporting thresholds then it is your option if you want to file but depending on the amount I might file anyway.

I guess I'm wondering if she was even authorized to transact her ex's account? I might know all the security questions, but not be on the account at all, therefore we would not have allowed for the transfer.

If she didn't have legit access to her ex's account (in spite of knowing the security keys), it was an attempt to take his money. She succeeded until boyo waved a flag on the play. Yes on filing, IMHO.

I concur. Attempt to defraud.
