We keep having people without State ID or DL wanting to use their Cherokee Nation Photo ID card to open an account. It's not currently in our BSA policy as acceptable ID unless it can be considered a government issued photo ID (which I don't think it would be). I don't know exactly what is involved to obtain these IDs. Would this be an acceptable form of ID for CIP as long as our policy allows it?

Just to learn what is involved in obtaining a tribal id:

Pottawatomie Tribe Contact: Charles Clark, Tribal Rolls Director cclark@potawatomi.org
Cherokee Nation Contact: Cherokee Nation Registration Department at 918-458-6980 or 1-800-256-0671
Chickasaw Tribal Contact: 580-436-7250 or cdib@chickasaw.net
Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma: 1-800-522-6170
Absentee Shawnee Tribe: 405-878-4712

Most of the tribes require, at a minimum, a certified birth certificate and ancestral lineage to the Dawes Rolls. It depends on the tribe as to whether the lineage is traced maternally or paternally.

Whether or not you accept the tribal ID is a question only your institution can answer based on perceived risk. It is on our secondary ID list.
