OK
I read a book about every 2 years anymore it seems, but i started From Beirut to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman last night and hated to put it down.....hope to have it finished in a couple more nights. I'm a bit fascinated by just how jacked up things are in the Middle East and why they're that way--this is a great book for that, and while very informative, it reads well--not as "academia".

American Gods - Neil Gaiman (I'm told this is one of the hottest books, so far it is just "meh")

quit reading Mr. Mercedes, King rambles too much and didn't hold my interest...

I really enjoyed American Gods, but it took a while for the story to get going.

If you like it, be sure to pick up Anansi Boys, as well. It's sort of a spin-off.

Thank you for the tip. I didn't read American Gods, but my husband and son did, so I picked this book up for them.

You're welcome. I hope they enjoy it! Gaiman is a master as writing characters that are extremely easy to dislike while somehow simultaneously endearing. I spent the whole book trying to decide whether Charlie was sweet or pathetic, and Spider fun or a real jerk.

I follow a Facebook page called OHFB, which has 9 eBooks listed daily, some free and some deeply discounted. Today Sue Grafton's X was on sale for $1.99, and since I have read all the other books in this series I was happy to download it at that price. I have downloaded several free books through following this page....some I very much enjoyed, a few not so much, but the price was right so that I didn't feel bad if I didn't finish the book. I have discovered a few authors I like this way, and then of course I pay for some of their other books, which is the point.

Thanks! I also get a daily deals email from Goodreads and one from BookBub. I currently have too many books in my TO READ stash, but they are good sources if you are looking for inexpensive ebooks. Goodreads will also send you a specific email if something on your TO READ list is discounted.

Happy-
I just finished the 2nd Myron Bolitar book. Thoroughly enjoyed the book. For once I was surprised when the killer/plot twist was finally revealed. It takes quite an author to do that. I'll read something different and then get the 3rd Bolitar book. Thanks again for the recommendation!

Also I read Truly, Madly, Guilty by Liane Moriarty (author of Big Little Lies.) At the end of the book I just couldn't figure out why the book was written. The "end" of the book was about 3/4 of the way through so the rest of it was a bit of a letdown. Has anyone read any of her other books? I'd like to read Big Little Lies but I loved the show and would hate for the book to fall short of expectations.

I wouldn't say that T,M,G was my favorite Moriarty book, but I have enjoyed a few of hers. I think my favorite may be The Husband's Secret, but I did also enjoy Big Little Lies. I have not watched the show, but it would have to have been altered in several ways since it takes place in Australia, and the actresses they cast also seemed a little off from the book. But I will keep in an open mind and eventually make time to watch it.

I'll add that to my list. Thanks for the recommendation!
