The Robert Cray Band and Train (they had 2 hits, years ago, but they are still doing some great stuff).

Wait - Train is obscure??? How about... Blame Sally, Dedeschi Trucks Band, Los Lobos, the Gypsy Kings

On of the wife's xm station was playing "Play that song" every 20 songs. I had to change the station on a long drive,

Not bands per se, but all the music I listen to is from what most of you would call obscure artists: Triumphant Quartet, Gold City, Kingdom Heirs, The Old Paths, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, Gaither Vocal Band.

GuitarDude, I understand how you feel completely . I'm a metal fan too, and most of the time people just look at me questioningly when I tell them the bands I like!

Van Morrison. Yes, everyone knows who Van Morrison is, and everyone can quote about 3 of his songs (generally, Brown Eyed Girl, Domino, and Wild Night), but those aren't even close to 3 of his best songs, and he's very prolific....been consistently making albums for the last 45 years. His best songs are unknown to most people.

Absolutely love Jars of Clay. Actually who I am listening to on the iPhone right now. Had the chance to meet them in Pittsburgh after a show. Really great guys.
I am also a big fan of Silversun Pickups, Foster the People and Toad the Wet Sprocket.

Beechboy, I lknow to pretty much all of those bands, and a few even performed here in Carson City, NV. Although we had to go to Reno to see Gaither Homecoming event. My parents had a Southern Gospel group in AZ, and they sang a lot of Gaither, Goodman, Rambo music.

DeeQ, Robert Cray is pretty mainstream/well known in blues circles . . . and he is awesome. I saw him open for Eric Clapton in 1987 (and Phil Collins played drums with Clapton!!).
Relient K - wonderfully inventive The 77's - (with my second favorite album name: Ping Pong Over the Abyss) Larry Carlton
