Is it 'Required' that we ask our clients for the source of funds when they make a large cash deposit that would trigger a CTR? I could not find anything in the FFIEC Manual that states it is 'required'. Can someone direct me to any verbiage that shows this is a requirement?

It is more of a regulatory expectation if the transaction is out of pattern for the customer.
