What do they think they are, native americans from the plains doing a sun dance? I won't even stick an earring in my ear, yet alone a meat hook in my shoulders...

and what is really scary is that these are our future leaders...

Obviously they are "hooked" on this past-time event.

They are just hanging around.

It's a new way to "meat" someone you are "hooked" on.

How did they come up with this unusual idea???

I am one of those bankers with piercing and tattoos, and although I personally would never hang myself from meat hooks, the guy that does my tattoos has several pictures of himself hanging in his office doing about the same thing. It is just their way of being more extreme. Now tattoos are becoming more common, I think that the people that are doing it feel that they need to go one step further to be unique. BTW. My tattoo guy said that it doesn't hurt as much as it looks.

Wow, now that tattoos and piercings and becoming more common, they are looking for a way to be unique. I always thought that unique meant different, so if a bunch of people are doing this, are they really unique? Inquiring minds want to know.

Ok... so maybe unique wasn't the right word... maybe wierd was.

I am curoius to know how many banks allow their employees to show tattoos or to have piercings. I have 4 tattoos. Two on which I usually don't hide (depending on what I am wearing) and my nose is pierced. My bank has never said anything to me about it, I was like this when they hired me, but they have made it clear that they will NOT let you have your toungue pierced.

We have several employees w/tatoos, including myself. Mine are 1. on my right shoulderblade and 2. on my right ankle. Neither are visible unless I choose to show them. One of our young tellers had her tongue pierced, and she was told to wear a "spacer" to work.

I have 2 tattoos, but I wouldn't dare allow them to be seen at work. One is on my shoulderblade, the other, my lower back. But I'm male. There are female employees who have a flower on the ankle or something and nobody seems to have a problem.

Let's just say in certain departments, you're better off not acting un-conservative in front of the big dogs. If you're in bookkeeping or IT, you can get away with about anything, because there isn't direct customer contact, and the branches also have different standards because they're high turnover and low salary, hence expectations about certain things are lower. But in my department (loans), I wouldn't dare show a tattoo or piercing.

Your are right about IT. Our IT guy is covered from shoulders to ankles to hands. I am in New accounts, but help out the loan officers quite a bit. I am also the youngest in the bank by at least 5 years. (I'm 25.) You would be suprised how many nice comments I get, even from older customers about them. I think that they know that I am good at my job, and professional, and these things just come with me. (oops ego trip for a minute) I wish that they were more excepted in banking because a tattoo doesn't make you unprofessional just colorful!

welcome to the real world, young one. There has been a perception for many years that excessive piercings and/or tattoos make you a "bad" person. Same thing with baggy pants and underwear showing, poor posture, bad grammar, and multi-colored hair. I'm not saying it is right, but most bankers, especially older banks, are very conservative, and wish their employees to dress and act that was as well. At my bank, men are not even allowed to have facial hair, and hair length can't reach their collar. I'm not saying that any of this is right, but they are my employer, and if you want to be on teh team, you have to wear the uniform.

I have one tatoo on my shoulder. We are not allowed to show anything! Ankles, small of the back, whatever, it is not allowed.
Piercings for Women are allowed but can't get "excessive". I had my ear pierced in two places (lobe and cartilage (sp?) ), and I was told to take them out when I was hired.

Where are you guys located that is so conservative? I am just north of Seattle, Washington.

Someone probably asked them whether they wanted to be compliance officers or stick metal hooks through their bodies......

I was watching the National Geographic channel last night and the commercial they were showing was about this meat hook thing. I think they are having a show about it tonight or tomorrow night.

Sorry, I can't answer this. What if one of the conservative bankers found this and figured out who I am? I will say it's considered one of the most liberal regions in the country.

we can have no tatoo's showing, if you have one that can't be covered (like your ankle and it would show through hose, you must wear a bandage to cover it. no piercing except ears for women...
