Well - cracked actually. I fell last Thursday and lunch and cracked (in two places) a bone in my foot. Been on crutches since last Friday with strict instructions not to put any weight on it. I go back to the orthopedist on Friday to verify I'm healing property (the swelling is now gone - thank goodness). Hopefully after Friday I can go into a walking boot as I've been working from home on my laptop.

BTW - 57 is too old to use crutches for the first time but I think I'm building some upper body strength. Ha!

Thanks guys. My husband has been a saint since I can do very little for myself - can't cook - can't clean the house - can't feed the dogs, etc.

Two words, Skittles - knee scooter. WAAAAAAY better than crutches for an injury like yours.

I agree, Beech - but I told my husband this was OK. Hey - I might gain a little upper body strength. Ha!

Skittles, I am so sorry to hear that. I broke my foot (base of my little toe near my ankle) in November. I twisted my ankle and heard a 'snap'....it was on the first day of my vacation! Like you, I was non-weight bearing for six weeks and the knee-scooter was a life saver. In a boot for another six weeks only able to walk on the heel and then to an ankle brace. I just started walking in regular shoes a couple of weeks ago......it was about 3 1/2 months! I wish you a very speedy recovery and when you get the chance and are able, stretch out those tendons. It is amazing how quickly they 'seize' up from not being used.

crcmnot - this sounds almost exactly like my injury (and I heard the sound) - except the first day of vacation part. They called it a pseudo Jones Fracture - maybe because mine was cracked and not displaced. Hopefully, though, I'll be able to get into a walking boot tomorrow. If not - I don't know how I'll be able to work from home any longer - and don't think I can get myself there (50+ miles each way).

I wish you a quick recovery, Skittles! I had a Jones Fracture (also broke the 4th metatarsal) in 2012 and it was awful! My husband, who was my fiancé at the time, was amazing! I had 8 weeks of absolutely no weight followed by relearning how to walk first in the boot and then with a shoe and all that fun stuff. It was my right foot so I couldn't even drive during that time. Between some great coworkers and my fiancé I never missed work, and he took care of everything on the home front (the dog, laundry, dishes, meals, etc.) the whole time.

In a walking boot and crutches. Can start putting a little weight on my heel. Can try full weight in two weeks depending on pain. Go back in 4 weeks. Progress!!

I think yours will heal a lot quicker than mine. Mine was displaced about 5mm and I opted not to have surgery! The worse part was having your independence taken away for such a long period of time. However, I am all ready for old age...I have crutches, two walking boots, compression socks, bath tub transfer bench and an ankle brace. I can open my own store grin

Where I am supposed to be
Mrs. PP has had ankle reconstructions, tendon transfers, tendon transplant from a corpse, 2 ankle fusions (both fusions were in the same ankle). I will be going in May 2nd to clean out a piece of bone floating in my ankle and having a brostrum(sp) procedure to correct some instability in the joint. I get to be 6 weeks in a cast, 4 weeks non weight bearing. Sadly I have the crutches, walking boot and ankle brace from prior injuries as well. I love getting older. smirk

Went back to the doctor today - and I'm out of the boot! Yay!!! Still may need to wear it a little and I'm not 100% healed, but things have progressed quite well. It's been a long 6 weeks.....

Spartan Country!
Glad to hear improved news Skittles! I spent 4 months in 2013 in a boot. 2 months before surgery and 2 months after. My husband also tore his meniscus and had surgery that same year. We were a hot mess!

I hope your recovery continues to be quick!

I had one a few years back and did not like it so I now insist on torn ligaments instead.
