I've heard some great things about Cumberland Island - and it's pretty close to you.

Skittles - Cumberland is beautiful! My family has a fishing cabin on a tidal creek south of Brunswick, and on a clear day you can just make out the north end of Cumberland from our front porch. We used to take Dad's boat across and fish just off the shore there because it was usually less crowded (and better fishing) than around Jekyll. Getting to see the wild horses was always a big bonus for me. smile

Home of Boundary Bay, Aslan, and other fine microbreweries and brew pubs. :-)

I am going to Mongolia to see my mom with my 3 year old daughter. We will be there for 3 weeks and I can't wait to see my mom's happy face again. It is has been 3 years since I visited her and 10 years since I immigrated to the USA.

I used up all my sick time and most of my vacation time, living in Dallas for a couple of months while my daughter underwent and recovered from a liver transplant....worked as many hours as time permitted on a single laptop, trying to scrub HMDA....hard to do, when I am accustomed to three big monitors.

I have about six days left, not sure what to do with it. My boyfriend has not been to most of the places I have, which is most of the United States....on the list, maybe Rocky Mountain National Park (and Estes Park) or Branson (I have never been but he has and has relatives there).

TMatt87....I have been to Yellowstone 5 times and have backpacked the most remote areas of the park. It is the most amazing place on earth! I want to go back and actually STAY at Old Faithful Inn....just to say I have. LOL

RegWarrior....DC is on my bucket list.

David!!!.....a Viking River Cruise is my DREAM!! I want to hear all about it when you come here in April!!!

AZloan - wonderful that you get to see your mother and that she get to see you and her granddaughter. My mom would say 3 weeks isn't enough! It would take an awful lot to get me on a plane to Mongolia (shudder)! How long will that flight be?!

Well, I'm planning on a trip to NYC over the Veterans Day weekend...my two highschool band kids will be marching in the parade. Hubby and I decided a trip to NYC was in order. Neither of us has ever been. We are not going as chaperone's though, so we need to figure out an agenda, where to stay and all that.

HRH Okie Banker- Yes, my mom said "Only 3 weeks???". She thinks it is not enough either. I think my mom is more excited to see her granddaughter than me though. smile Since there is no direct flight to Mongolia, I have one stop and the total travel time is about 20 hours. 12 hours flight, 4 hour layover, 3 hour flight.

Wow! I am impressed. Have you ever been on the Nana Ken? That is some colllllddddd water!!!. My daughter guided there one summer when she was in college. Beautiful country. Take wool socks and fleece garments. You will wear the wool socks with your sandals and not care how funny it looks. TRUST ME on this.....

Yes, I've been to the NOC and, accordingly, was smart enough to sign up for the last possible training session in the spring. I've got the wool socks, the float bag, rain gear, all of it. If your daughter told you about "bunk house" where the trainees stay, you might wonder about my lack of good sense. I opted for a nearby cabin, solo. wink

I just returned from my second trip to Mexico of 2018, so I'll be staying home for a while. This trip was for my son's wedding. He was married in Tepoztlan, Morelos, but we also spent time in Mexico City, where the bride's family lives, and in Oaxaca. We toured the ruins of the city of Monte Alban in Oaxaca, which I had never heard of. The city was abandoned and covered by dirt and grass before the Spanish arrived, and was found about 100 years ago. We ate fried grasshopper and fried worm tacos, and ant eggs. I think my son's father-in-law just likes to mess with us. We also saw how mezcal is made, and "sanitary" is not a word I would use to describe it. I heard enough mariachi music that I now know a few words to several songs. Somewhere in between, we squeeze in a wedding. Mexican weddings are an endurance event. The reception started at about 3:30 and ended about 1:30 AM.

Just came back from Aruba, and loved it! Might be planning a long weekend to Maine in August, and going to Florida in Oct to see family.

Not sure, my daughter is kind of taking the lead on this one.

Ken, are you considering starting a second career? I've tagged only with my daughter on some great rivers. She's currently in WV. The New River is awesome and runs in front of her house. The Gauley was the ultimate whitewater river experience for this old gal.
I haven't been in several years now. I'd probably get out on most any of them again except for the Gauley again. The Occee in TN is fun. Been on the Nolichucky in TN and also the Flathead in MT.

Well, today's the last day and no one has offered me a job. (Perhaps I've run the trainers under overhanging branches and down the rapids backwards once too often, but I did complete the "aggressive swim" in 52 degree water!) grin

Raft Guide School is the only "vacation" I've ever taken that actually contributed something tangible to my life. Most of my classmates were 40 years younger and that certainly raised the bar, but crossing the finish line is going to be a rush!

You are here
I did the moose river in NY a few (more than a decade) years ago and there was ice flowing down the river with us. 52 seems a little warm.
