If we don't use or issue gift, credit or debit cards does PCI compliance apply?

If at any time card information comes into your procession, PCI compliance applies to how you safeguard that information.

We issue non-re-loadable reward cards to customers using a third party. So I guess it would apply.. We want to stop using cards and go back to checks. If we do the if I'm reading this correctly PCI is not applicable.

If you do not issue and you do not acquire, meaning you never have card data in your possession, PCI compliance would not be applicable since you do not possess any card information to secure.

PCI Compliance applies to your gift cards in that you have to have a method to secure the physical cards which contain the card number, any internal sales forms which have the card number written on them and any software used to activate the cards using the card number.
