I was wondering if Duke's was a regional thing, I have never heard of it up here in CNY.

I'm weird. I can use either/or. But usually opt for yellow mustard.

Technically, I think mayo is too - but don't quote me on that.

We have Duke's here in KY, I've used it a few times. My favorite brand is actually an off branch called Family Pantry.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I don't like either but some recipes need Mayo so we use Duke's. No miracle whip.

It seem easier than baking a pie so why not have the "women folk" mix up a batch.

Grew up on Miracle Whip, but now I'm all about mayo! Not to mention mayo makes the best chocolate cake, thanks to my grandpa's recipe. Plus the entertainment factor of the cashier's confusion when I buy baking cocoa and mayo and say I'm making cake is pretty good too. smile

I will take what I can get, like them both, but it has to be fresh and cold. ^_^

Mustard is for hamburgers and that is it.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
we have hellman's, duke's, kraft, and miracle whip in our fridge...i don't use the stuff but i'm sure having 4 varieties is necessary to someone...we also have 3 different brands of ketchup and 2 of mustard...

That's too funny. But, there is only one brand of ketchup as far as I am concerned. Nobody does it like Heinz.

So the mayo takes the place of eggs and oil?!?!

That it does Bacon! And sorry all that were asking for the recipe! I got seriously sidetracked Friday, and just got around to checking this thread a few minutes ago.

I don't have the recipe with me, but this recipe is very similar:

https://spicysouthernkitchen.com/dukes-chocolate-mayonnaise-cake/

Give it a try; there are a lot of other versions out there, but I recommend staying away from those that still ask for eggs. Mayo should remove the need for both the eggs and oil (at least in the mayo cakes I've made!).

I saw that, too. I was going to print out the recipe, but decided not to after that. It looks delish, though.

Well I'm sure the frosting and everything helps that calorie count along! This looks like a two-layer cake, therefore double the frosting essentially. smile I don't get that fancy lol; I just make it in a cake pan, and put one layer of chocolate frosting across the top. Or, better yet, I make the cake and then use it as the base for Better Than Running Through the Sprinkler Cake (which is a lot less awkward to have the 8 and 12 year old request for their birthday cakes than what it's actually called)! laugh Of course, when it comes to that kind of cake, the calorie count skyrockets; I just close my eyes and pretend I have no knowledge of what I'm eating.
