When depositing a check through a mobile device, should the endorsement be: For Mobile Deposit only, then account number or should it read For Mobile Deposit only, account number and signature. Is the customers signature on the back of the mobile deposit item a requirement or does it suffice with For Mobile Deposit Only, account number?

Check out the Regs. You will want to require the Bank's name/initials. Would not be effective to lessen your liability without that since without it, one could mobile deposit the same item to multiple financials.

but if the account number is required, wouldn't that pertain to one specific account at a particular bank?

Where can you find guidance about providing the bank's initials in the regs?

I, too, am looking for clarification on initials (different thread). JobSecurity, could you be a little more specific?

This is what i found under Section 229.34 Warranties and i did not find anything released to bank's initials in the reg. Can you please provide additional details on where you found this.

Section 229.34 Warranties
Sets forth specific warranties on returned checks, notices of nonpayment, settlement amounts, encoding, and offsets and specifies damages for breach of these warranties.

You can't find a mention of using the bank's initials in the indorsement because it's not there. However, if a check were indorsed "Mobile deposit only to CCB&T (signature)" it would still be a pretty good warning for First National Bank or Farmers & Merchants that the check may have been deposited at CCB&T (BTW, those are the initials of my former bank, which disappeared into Banknorth in 2004). The only reason you would want to prescribe the use of initials is that your automatic review equipment can't read a long bank name.
