If I can open this back up for discussion - I have an application who wrote in Caucasian for Ethnicity without checking anything. From this, I am going to mark Not Hispanic or Latino as this seems the only option.

Under Race, this same borrower, in the space under Other Pacific Islander, has entered Caucasian. Based on the answers above, this is what I must enter under Other Pacific Islander.

At least he did select a sex......

Are my assumptions correct?

While I understand that sometimes applicants don't understand the DI form and (most likely) complete it wrong, I just find it easier to report exactly what they provide. When consistent in this approach, it becomes very difficult for an auditor/examiner to cite you for a violation. If you don't list exactly what they provide, the opportunity for criticism elevates.

So, I would report exactly what they provide even if I suspect I would have completed the form differently.

I previously posted:
If the applicant provides only a particular… “write-in” subcategory …in the space provided, you are permitted, but are not required, to report Other (includes any of the “Other” options)… or American Indian or Alaska Native (i.e. the main category) in addition to reporting the particular… “write-in” subcategory …provided by the applicant. [Appendix B to §1003]

You should not alter what the applicant stated. M.C. Hammer said "Can't touch this". Follow his advise.
