Reg CC is confusing me today.

1) We received multiple cashier checks in one deposit, all of which are less than $5,000, but in total they add to $12,000. For the New Account hold and the Large Deposit hold, can we hold $7,000? Just want to clarify that we can add the cashiers checks together.

2) We received a $3,000 cashier check and a $9,000 personal check. For the New Account hold are we limited to holding $9,000? For the Large Deposit hold can we hold $7,000?

1. Large item exception is based on total amount amount of checks deposited. You can hold $7k for up to 7 business days.
2. You can either invoke a new account hold for $9,000 and hold the local checks for as long as you disclose according to your policy or invoke a large item hold for $7,000 up to the 7th business day. On a new account hold we must make he first $5k of cashiers checks available next day. Pick an exception here and the new account hold provides greater protection.

Thanks, Brian, that helps.

Now I'm getting really hung up on when I can combine a case by case hold with a large item hold.

In the situation where I have $3,000 cashier's check and a $9,000 personal check, I can hold $7,000 for up to 7 business days. Can I then place a case by case hold on the first $5,000?

If it is switched so that there is a $9,000 cashiers check and a $3,000 personal check, I can hold $7,000 for up to 7 business days. Can I place a case by case hold on the $3,000 personal check?
