I'm going to Hawaii next month and have never been. Half of the time in Oahu and the other on Big Island. Any suggestions?

Starting to plan an Alaskan cruise for July 2019. Any tips? We are going to use a travel agent to help us put this together. Pretty excited. I think there will be 3-4 couples going.

Happy birthday, Okie! If you have it as an option, add on some time in Denali. It's a beautiful park. In Juneau, I really enjoyed a helicopter ride around the glaciers, which include a stop on top of one of them along with a ride in a dog sled.

We are flying into Jacksonville Florida and driving up to Savannah and Charleston. Any suggestions for this trip? Where to stay, what to do?

The Mountains are calling, and I must go.

Pretty good chance I'm going to be able to do the Four Pass Loop in Colorado in a few weeks. It's my only opportunity for a break before the next semester fires up.

We are planning a trip to Savannah Georgia in October. Any suggestions for things to do? My whole family is going so tips for small group activities are welcomed. I can't wait to visit Tybee Island!

My wife & I were going to go to Tybee Island this year for our anniversary but a baby happened instead. Maybe next year.

Charleston: So many things to see and do. Depends on your interests (history, natural beauty, shopping, dining). Really nice beaches at Isle of Palms, Folly, or Kiawah. Fort Sumter/Harbor tour. A number of plantation/gardens - my favorites are Boone Hall Plantation, Magnolia Gardens, Middleton Place. I have to put in a plug for The Citadel, The Military College of SC - beautiful campus and if you happen to be there on a Friday afternoon during school year, there is a weekly afternoon dress parade. Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant to view the shrimping boats (also some nice eating in the vicinity). The USS Yorktown/Medal of Honor Museum. Walking downtown in the market area and Battery Park. So many good places to eat, impossible to list.

Just personal preference and I'm more than a little biased, but frankly, Savannah's nice but it's no Charleston.

Alaskan cruise - it's a want to do again!!!

We took Holland America ("HAL") tour/cruise package. Flew into Fairbanks, landed 11:30 PM and it was as bright as noon. We took the bags off the carousel and gave them to HAL. That was the last time we touched them until we got to Vancouver. They had planned activities in Fairbanks, then took Alaskan RR to Denali. Stayed overnight with many things to do, including being pulled by sled dogs (hitched to dune buggies) who keep training for the Ideriron race. Train to Anchorage/hotel. Coach to Seward where we got on the ship.

Glacier Bay and the captain maneuvered the ship to within 50 yards of a calving glacier. Next stop Haines/Skagway. Took a narrow gauge RR same route as the miners. Had lunch in the Red Onion - it is a period restaurant which during the 1890's served as a brothel. Next stop Juneau - took small boats out whale watching. Saw a mother and calf - momma was teaching calf to swim and come up for air. Also saw whales "bubble netting" - go down 100 meters and swim in a circle blowing bubbles out the blowhole. Ir captures the smaller fish in the middle. One at a time, the whales surface in the middle eating as many fish as possible on the way up. Ketchikan was next - more stuff to do. Cruised to Vancouver, disembarked stayed a few days and came home.

Cruise line excellent, so much to do at each stop. We did the land portion first so we would have a chance to relax before heading home. Loved it so much, wife wants to move to Alaska. Although they're there, you will NOT see the Northern Lights (too bright out). That's the same reason they save the fireworks from the 4th of July and fire them off New Years Eve.

I second HAL for an Alaskan Cruise. They do it right. Also, if there was ever a time to splurge on a balcony cabin, this is it. The sights are the focus of this cruise -- so seeing the vistas, and maybe breaching whales! from the comfort of your own private room can't be beat.

I second Cessna's recommendation of Fort Sumter and Magnolia Gardens. Went there several years ago and loved it!!

Oh, if you notice all the HAL ships names end with "d a m" Noordam, Zandam, etc.
I was trying to find one of the hats that the Security employees have. It said "d a m security." (no spaces between letters)
