I am relatively new to the escheatment process so have a question. When escheating, do you escheat to the state that you have an office in, or do you escheat to the state that the customer is located? I have many accounts where the customer lives outside the state of WI, so I'm not sure I understand exactly where the money is to go.

one state over
While I am not in charge of escheatment at my Bank, I believe we escheat everything to WI. At least, I have never been asked to research any other state's escheatment laws …. We are on the boarder of MN so a lot of our account holders are in another state also.

One other thing, when attempting to make contact with the owner of the funds, would that be our customer or the payee (in the instance of a cashier's check)?
